Let me add my own "I've never had a WD HD fail on me."
I see at least 10 posts here using that as an argument to say a drive is good. Some people even claim they've used "tons" of IBM HD's and never had 1 fail on them. Wow, that means IBM's must be good HD's.
People! If 1 out of every 1000 IBM HDs fails, IMB would have hundreds or thousands of these drives fail on them. Can ya imagine the publicity? They probable had a few fail on them out of hundreds of thousands sold. That already raised hell to where they had to carry a poor reputation and fold their HD operations. The data people stored on these drives are worth much more than the drives themselves. Having 1 out of every 1000 drives fail within the first year is unacceptable. So, please, just because the 5 IBM drives you used haven't failed you....
Bottom line is, If ya only gonna store info that's not critical to you, buy IBM and save a buck. Else, spend the extra 20-40 for a more reliable drive. Remember, IBM GXP series HD's were always more expensive than the rest. They're cheaper now for a reason... The universal law applies here as well, "you get what you paid for"...
