Hi all,

I just got myself the LG w2363d for 2d gaming. I installed the driver from the CD and under Display properties, and then I set the monitor screen refresh rate to 120hz. Once that has been done, the resolution on the monitor looks like crap as though it was not set to it's native resolution, but it definitely is.

I'm running windows 7 with dual monitors off a radeon 4870 card. I am also fairly sure that it is dual link DVI. I know 3d has to be an nvidia card, do I need an nvidia card for 2d also?

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Try using another DVI port. You definitely don't need an nVidia card, and you shouldn’t need a monitor driver either.

have you tried with just the 120hz monitor hooked up? have you tried HDMI and DVI?

yeah i mentioned it because a friend has the asus 120hz display and could not get it working using a DVI --> HDMI adaptor, had to run strait from the HDMI out on the vid card. Adapter must not have supported 120hz.

OP: No, an ATI/AMD card will work fine in 120Hz. I've got a 4650 here that works perfect in 120Hz with that monitor. I have the AW2310 now as I sent the LG back to Amazon. Overall it was a decent monitor IMO but mine had 2 faulty touch sensitive buttons out of the box.

I'm sure you know (while some in this thread may not...no offense) that a dual link DVI port / cable is mandatory to support the bandwidth requirements of 1920x1080 @ 120Hz. Your 4870 should work perfectly assuming you've got the monitor running off it's dual link DVI port. Also your card may have one DVI and one dual link DVI so try them both out. I'm also not sure if it will work properly with more than one monitor hooked up if you're trying to run one at 60Hz and one at 120Hz.

To me it sounds like running dual monitors is probably the culprit....

Yeah I'm just about 100% positive NONE of the 120hz Monitors do 120hz over HDMI. Has to be Duallink DVI only.

This worked, I switched ports and it works fine now

Thanks!

btw, I don't even have an HDMI out on my video card, and yes, I did realize that all 120hz monitors do need dual link DVI. I do realize many did not

For anyone wondering, it is definitely possible to have a 120hz monitor and a non 120hz (Old monitor was a 60hz 25.6' T260HD) monitor at the same time.

And they can run at different refresh rates at the same time? Interesting, if this is the case I might dust my FW900 off.
