I'd say the difference in response time between BenQ and Asus is only going to matter to professional players. Most players who think themselves "competitive" would do just as well on 60hz, though the smoothness of 120hz can certainly add to perceived image quality

moonbog is right.. i tested out 3 120Hz monitors at one time. The Asus, and 2 Acer. If you want model specifics, just ask. The Asus blew them away. One of the Acer lcds' was a 27" also. Both the Acer had terrible ghosting vs the Asus. I even got a second opinion on the Asus VS the Acer doing a side by side viewing UT3 which is very fast paced and the Asus came out on top. It is an expensive monitor but you hardly change those, like a PSU or computer case

Thanks everyone. Its between the. Asus and BenQ now just gotta decide which. 3d isn't a must but to have it might be fun to play with sometime and see how things go.

Probably gonna be based on the price I can get them at.

If I could go with a bigger screen (27" etc) I would but I am space limited to 24" or smaller.

I enjoy 3d gaming which is a major reason why I won't buy Amd. I also forgot that you'd probably want to go with a lightboost monitor. The asus I have is a first gen and can be kinda dark in some games. Definitely add lightboost to your checklist. Don't get me wrong its a very nice overall monitor. Having said that though if the price for the lightboost is ridiculous then I would get a first gen.

How do you know if light boost is there or not?

Also how much power do you really need for 3D gaming?

Your 670 will be just fine. My current set up with a gtx 460 won't cut it in 3d but I don't game much anyways. I'll play sf4 in 3d and bf3 in 2d.

I think there are only a few lightboost monitors with the asus 27" being the best from what I've read. Supposedly it not only fixed the darkness issue it eliminated ghosting even better.

BenQ XL2420T
BenQ here as well. I know people turn their noses up at "gaming" branded appliances but this really is an all round excellent monitor.

Just got the Nvidia 3D vision 2 kit yesterday as well and that works great. Only thing is windowed 3D is bust with the 301.42 drivers. (although they DID fix the 120hz over displayport problem).

Good choice going Asus or BenQ. I have an acer GD235 and the blacks are terrible, plus the lighting is *NOT* even meaning the darker the the screen gets the more you actually see the background light bleeding into the picture from all four corners. Definitely not an issue playing bright games but you can never get it to go away completely.

Any advantage of Display port over DVI at all? If not then I'll just use DVI.

I'm trying to determine if I can somehow make room for a 27" screen. Not too sure if I can, but if I can fit a 27" monitor how does the Samsung S27A950D compare to other options?

The one thing that really bugs me about the ASUS VG278 is the vertical viewing angles, which I think might be due to their adaptive lighting. I usually like to kick back (lean my chair back) when I watch videos. Unfortunately, this is nearly impossible to do with the ASUS monitor. In low-light scenes, the videos become so dark that they're nearly unwatchable. If I move the video over to my other monitor (Dell Ultrasharp U2709W), it's fine.

Maybe there's some setting that I'm missing?

You don't know what you're talking about. I can go above 60fps in a lot of games. I don't know why you think I can't. You don't have to have 120fps to have a use for 120hz. What if I wanted to do 3D too sometime? 60hz can't.

Typical of you to follow what everyone else thinks because it is Popular but IMHO higher resolution is always better than try to get high frames rates in games to take full advantage of a 120Hz monitors full benefits. Thanks for the personal attack by the way.

He didn't insult you. He said you didnt know what you're talking about because you don't need to hit 120+fps to take advantage of a 120 Hz monitor and he's right. Your opinion that higher resolution is better is just that, your opinion. He's still right.

I have the S27A950D on an nvidia card card atm. I can't recall all the details, but my nvidia cards 3D only works via side by side (half resolution width-wise) with this monitor. I think AMD HD3D or whatever it's called works with frame sequential (full resolution, every other image is the 3D opposite) so it's the ideal situation.

Watching videos etc. works great, but gaming with side by side isn't ideal, you lose some resolution. BFBC2 looks amazing in 3D especially in the deathmatch rounds where you are in and around buildings, but with the settings I tried (lowered details plus side by side) it compromised the quality too much, I suspect the AMD cards would look better.

It's a great monitor and image quality is good. There are a number of complaints of backlight bleeding and mine does have slight bleeding around the edge but it's literally not noticeable unless you sit on a completely black screen and look for it.

Pros.
120Hz
Size
Image Quality/Vivid (but glossy screen)

Cons.
An AMD card would be better
3D doesn't work in every game, a bit immature perhaps.

On the other hand I had a really old version of tridef 2010 or early 2011, and when trying to update it it didn't work but I found some thread somewhere where they said if you just download the latest version on top of it, it should work and it did but I haven't gone through and retested anything to see what it's fixed/upgraded.

Another thing I should note, you lose a bit of time due to 3D rendering so hardcore FPS would only be playable (competitively) in 120Hz mode vs. 3D.
