What is the top 120hz monitor currently?

Want to upgrade from my 60hz 24" screen but i don't see a lot of comparison between brands for 120hz screens. Any personal experiences and stuff are appreciated.

What type of finish is the Asus? I actually like that one quite a bit...

Also how would you guys interpret brightness? I see 250 Cd/m2 300, 400... In other words do you generally want a higher number?

Your going to need more GPU horse power before you upgrade to a 120Hz monitor otherwise just get a real nice high end 60Hz. I would suggest a Catleap before a 120Hz monitor.

You don't need to have 120fps to run a 120hz monitor. Why does everyone think that?

You don't need to have 60fps to run a 60Hz either but it's always ideal to have the FPS at or above the monitors Native refresh rate for the highest performance and best most enjoyable experience. 120fps is a far stretch in many games even for the 670.

You don't know what you're talking about. I can go above 60fps in a lot of games. I don't know why you think I can't. You don't have to have 120fps to have a use for 120hz. What if I wanted to do 3D too sometime? 60hz can't.

The thing is. Vsync limits to 60 and when it drops it drops too much and gets a little stutter. Adaptive vsync helps but I still get screen tearing sometimes. Vsync off is best performance by far but screen tearing bad. If I had a 120hz monitor I could turn vsync on and never get screen tearing and not be limited to 60fps which again, I can go beyond in almost every game I've played. Yes even BF3 and Crysis 2 can exceed 60fps at times. Not as much as say...Max Payne 3 or Dirt 3, but yeah you get the idea.

You do NOT need to match your FPS to your refresh rate. That's FALSE! With a 120hz screen and vsync on you have a limit of 120fps that can be displayed. If you exceed that it will cap out, if you stay below there's no problem. Hell I could probably run with vsync off and it won't tear because I won't be hitting 120fps. Motion, even at 60fps will appear smoother on a 120hz screen vs a 60hz screen.

I'm not setting a budget but I'm also not going overboard either. I simply asked what were some of the better 120hz monitors. I'm not asking "what's the best if I won the lottery?" and I'm not necessarily looking for "best value". I'll pay for quality up to a point. I really asked because I don't see many reviews of monitors outside of things like screen quality and color accuracy. Maybe I just haven't searched the correct terms or looked in the right places, but 120hz doesn't seem to be mentioned a lot and when it is there's no rundown of which 120hz models are worth looking into.

I simply have a 24" max screen size limit. No room for big panels.

Samsung does the job x3 for me, but I also like Displayport over DVI, so check which model of the S23A7XX you want.

The best advice I usually see is to get over to a b&m where you can see a few side-by-side and make a judgement based on your own experience.

I really think that we're on the verge of 120hz becoming a standard feature within the next year.

The problem is that there isn't much of a need for it outside of PC gaming.

That's just it, no B&M store near me stocks any 120hz monitors. I don't have a Fry's or Microcenter around here.

Speaking of Display Port is there a difference between it and HDMI or DVI in terms of lag or latency? I've heard some people say that HDMI introduces a bit of delay. Is this actually true?

Typical of you to follow what everyone else thinks because it is Popular but IMHO higher resolution is always better than try to get high frames rates in games to take full advantage of a 120Hz monitors full benefits. Thanks for the personal attack by the way.

For 120Hz, you need DVI or DP. HDMI (as I recall) doesn't have the bandwidth (though I could be out of date with that info).

There's a good review site I can't remember at the moment... 3d dispay review or something? The guy does a decent job looking at 120Hz monitors.

If I find it, I'll be back.

BenQ XL2420T is nice in that it has a height adjustable stand. But Asus is cheaper and comes with 3D glasses... so if you don't care about height adjustability and want to try out 3D, go with Asus.

Asus VG278 is completely awesome and comes with 3D Vision 2 glasses and has integrated emitter. Lightboost actually works and movies look COMPLETELY BADASS. I watched Transformers Dark side of moon and that was really the cat's meow! Can't say enough good about this monitor. Although I have heard that the 27" Samsung 120hz monitors have better picture quality. Asus is matt finish, samsung is uber soaking wet glossy-like.

BenQ has an instant response mode that will elminate any post processing to attempt to artificailly improve image quality if favor of keeping input lag to an absolute minimum, making it amongst the fastest monitors you can have.

If you're a competitive player there really aren't many brands right now that can compete with BenQ, certainly not ASUS.
