120mm fan & SLK-800. Would this work?

Hi,
i`ve been thinking of ways to increase the amount of air that my SLK-800 HS recieves, but still provides the same amount of sound as my current fan. Heres what i come up with.

1) Take off existing 80mm fan + fan clips.
2) Mount Zalman Fan bracket into rig.
3) Suspend a 120mm fan above the SLK-800.

Do you think that this would work? Or does the SLK-800 have to have the fan mounted actually on it to work propely?

I'm using a 92mm fan on an SK6+. You should be able to get by with a 120 on the 800.

Nice work there Blain, I'll be using your tip on my SLK-800 and place a PAPST 4412 F/2GL 120mm fan on top of it

Your 92mm fan is mounted actually on the HS.
The 120mm fan thing that im saying, will be about 6cms above the HS, not on it.

All you need is air flow. Suspending it will work fine too. Its all a matter of heat flowing away from the heat sink.

If you find your not getting enough flow, then create a makehift duct to better direct the air at the heat sink.

I am doing the same thing. I was hoping to use the 80mm to 120mm duct found at Plycon.

Imagine this. The AGP Card is at the bottom. At the top, the CPU. Above the CPU, a 120mm fan. Along the left of the case, and slightly below the 120mm, is 2 80mm fans.
If you can imagine the above. What im trying to say is, wont the air from the 120mm fan get sucked out by the 2 80mms before it hits the HS?

Try it. If it doesn't work, do like BalAtWork suggested and make a duct for it. Or maybe try shimming the 120mm fan on the Zalman bracket so it's closer to the SLK-800. Or maybe bend the Zalman bracket so the fan's closer to the HS. Bottom line is try it and check your temps.

I would do that, but the problem, is i dont have that much money at the moment, so im not about to go an spend what little money i have on something that might not work propely.
