120MM Fan

I'm looking for a sub 20dBA 120mm fan.
Also what would be good airflow for a fan like that?

I have checked newegg they have 2 fans that fit my reqirements one coolermaster rated at 13dBA but with only 11 CFM they also have a aerocool rated at 19dBA that moves 37CFM, I'm not sure how good 37CFM but I'm pretty sure 11CFM won't get you too much cooling.

what about a really powerful 120mm fan and a fan controller to slow it down to the speed u like, but that aerocool sounds pretty good

The only sub 20db result will be if you undervolt a Nexus 120mm fan or undervolt a Yateloon D12SL.

It may be possible to obtain sub 20db on a more common Yateloon D12SM, but you are looking at sub 7V. So you would be limited to a Sunbeam fan controller or the zalman fanmates.

Most other fans will have unwanted noise character that would be an "annoying" sub 20db sound - such as clicking, buzzing, etc.

You are safest with the aforementioned 3 fans. In addition, a Globe fan, and acoustifan may be able to do this, however I have no prior experience with these fans.

I purchased two Yate Loon D12SMs at PCTekonline, nice guys to do business with. The fan is two-wire and comes with both male and female 4-pin connectors, so I suppose you'd need a 4-pin to 3-pin adapter to use a Zalman FanMate.

The only real way to be sure is to buy a quality, quiet fan and volt it down.

I'm with Chode Messiah on this one. I usually like to get blaster fans, then cut them back to 7v.

Don't trust any manufacturer that states noise levels below 20dBA.

SilenX "13dBA" 120mm fans are louder than Nexus "22.8dBA" 120mm fans simply because SilenX lies and Nexus does not.
Another company that does this is Papst.

The quietist 120mm fans you're going to find are Nexus or Yate Loons.

Its not that they "lie" persay, the mislead.

For instance, Nexus, Yateloon, and Panaflo probably take their measurements form 1 meter away. Companies like thermaltake take their measurements from the next country over :laugh:
