128 MB RAM VS 256

I currently have 128 mb ram and my harddrive gets hit every now and then. I want ultra smooth gameplay without a single hit at all. Will upgrading to 256 mb ram help this out.

I noticed quake3 and UT ran smoother after i added another 128MB of ram. Also, when I have a lot of IE windows open, AIM, ICQ, Norton, and even sometimes....the TV tuner for my V3 3500TV on at the same time.....the computer doesn't slow down one bit. When i had 128 ......closing all those windows or switching sometimes made the computer access the hdd which slowed down the computer.....256 is nice to have....it just gives you more room to work with.

when I went from 128 to 256 MB in Win98, I thought "hmmm...this is a bit faster"

When I yanked a 128MB to sell (needed the $$$), I thougth "OMFG, this is SO SKANK-A$$ SLOW!!!!!!"

I immediately took the DIMM off the "forsale" newsgroup.

256 works great.

More ram is always better. But 128 has been the sweet spot for awhile.

256 will be a requirement probably around the middle of next year.

128 MB is OK for normal use, but 3D games and Windows 2000 are pushing the threshhold up to 192 MB of RAM. You can get by with 128 MB of RAM but you will probably need to upgrade within the next 6 months.

When I upgrade my Celeron 500 to a P3 next year, I will get an extra 64 MB to make my total 256 MB.
