Ill be getting 256 soon too and dumping my previous 128 into my sisters comp(her xmas present ).
I doubt you'll see a big impovement in games, but win2k will definetly love the extra memory.

128M + is only good if you run mem intensive apps (like Photoshop, 3DSMAX, etc) or if your like me and open dozens of windows for most everything you do.

I'm personally getting 384M ram, 512M if i can afford it, for my new system, since i do all of the above.

RAM is so darn cheap now, it would pay to get as much as you can. If you migrate to Win2K you will need it. 128MB of PC133 is $60-$70 from Crucial. That is hard to beat.

Go for 256. It makes a bit of difference for surfing and playing some games. Also, (although people will say i'm smoking crack) the extra 128meg made my system slightly more stable

With Win Me, I think it would be a good idea, especially with the prices as they are.

Im thinking of getting another 256, I do not know whether that is needed though

You can always get 192 if you can't deside. I can run games on Windows 2000 and 128MB but could use about 64MB more.

Get at least 256mb. I'dual boot and both '98 and '2K were noticeably faster....so I've now got 512mb...

As low as it is, I went ahead and got 256 in addition to the 128 I have. If it goes lower I'll feel like I should have waited. My prediction is that it shouldn't go much lower and like it's predecessor ram that PC100/133 made obsolete, should just become more difficult to find. The pricing is such that the whole thought is to get you to think complete system upgrade. For AMD's that means DDR, for Intel it's RDRAM. I looked at it as for a while, PC100 was at $ 80 for generic anyway, spend what I would have spent normally and get a 2 for the price of one deal. Just a perspective, I still spent $ 80.

Well, I hard to ask this question to myself when I had to give 64Mb to another system leaving me 128.
In the end I made a decision based on the projected practical life of my board and processor (see the signature). I honestly think I can be satisfied with it till 2003, so long as the software doesn't require memory that I don't have. Further, speech recognition was digging into the hard drive too much.
RAM was £48 for 128Mb CAS2. I thought it will only go up in the next two years.

I would go ahead and buy my memory now even if you don't need it. Its not going to stay at these low prices for every and if you upgrade to win2k you'll need it. Buy Now. I just upgraded to 256mb then pick up 128mb so now running 384mb with win2k.

If you have a gfx-card with 64 Mb ram it´s better to have at least 256Mb. The more ram on the gfx-card the more you need in the system. That´s because large textures that take advatage of the extra gfx-ram will also need more system ram overall.
This becomes even more important if you use Win2k.

Hey, English guys...
it pays to keep checking Crucial like it's the stockmarket. I check prices almost every day. Earlier in Friday evening the RAM was £53. A few hours later I checked and it had gone down £5. They were updating their prices even on Friday evening! I paid £41 for 64Mb from DABS in March, so even though memory COULD get cheaper, like, how much better do you expect it to get?? Free with Frosties?

Mem, at least it was £75 for 133. If it had been PC100, THAT would have been hard to take .......just went back and read rigoletto's post, OUCH

Unfortunately, the site says that to ensure delivery for chrissie that orders should have been in by the 14th, but i ordered last night (17th) so i just hope i get the damn stuff, i want to play at the weekend

I also check crucial like the stockmarket, and was delighteed to see my shares plummet by £10 in 2 weeks

EDIT: I am Scottish! heheheh

Good choice man. The reason i am upgrading is because im running Whistler Pro B1 and i love it to bits. Unlike win2k, whistler has that little bit extra to make me take the jump, ive been very happy with it for the last month and its just begging me for more memory. How can i refuse it ????
