This week's CompUSA advertisement includes a two day (Sunday & Monday) deal on 128MB CF or SM -- $49.99. CompUSA cards are rebadged Lexar media; the packaging is identical to Lexar and WinXP identifies it as Lexar.

BestBuy has 128mb CF with a free reader instantly. Both the Media and reader are made by SanDisk. Looked at both of these deals and i'm deciding to jump for the BB one b/c of the free reader.

Microcenter has the Lexar 128 CF on sale for $49.99 (through 1/27/02, if you are lucky enough to have one in your area). This is for a 2X card.

BestBuy carries the Lexar 128 MB CF 12X media for $99.99.

So walk into BB with the MC ad, ask for a pricematch (plus 10% more off) and pick up the 12X media at the bargain price of $35 each ($100 - $50 PM - $5 10% extra - $10 Rebate = $35). The harassed clerk behind the service desk at BB will never notice that you are getting 12X media instead of 2X!

The rebate is only one per household. So buy them one at a time for your friends (cough cough) or print extra copies of the rebate form off the BB rebate website. The rebate only requires the rebate form, UPC and a copy of the receipt.

I picked up three this morning at BB, worked like a charm.

Lexar has one of the worst rated CF Media. I'll post the link when I find it (again) about different CFs.

I don't know what you mean by "worst rated". A number of reviews have been published that indicate the manufacturer speed ratings (eg. Lexars 4X, 12X, 16X) are meaningless. Also, the write performance depends as much or more on the capabilities of device as on the controller on the card.

As far as I can tell, the CompUSA CF cards are rebadged Lexar 4X USB-enabled media. If you don't like them, don't buy them.

The BB one is 79.99 with a reader. It's in this weeks circular..I prefere using SanDisk media over other companies b/c of it's wide range of compatibility. Sorry, didn't post the price on my previous post.

Does anyone know if there are such things as "High Performance" smartmedia cards? I know that Lexar makes 8x and higher speeds Compact Flash cards, but I was wondering if there was something equivalent for smartmedia.

Also, I know for a fact that those Mr. Flash compact flash and smartmedia cards from newegg run at a slower speed than Lexar and other brand cards (I tried a Mr. Flash 32MB compact flash in a Nikon Coolpix 990, and the pause between each shot was unbearable compared to when using the Lexar card that came with the camera). Can anyone recommend any "high performance" brand and model smart media cards (and compact flash other than Lexar)? Thanks.

The BB deal ($35 net cost for Lexar 128 12X media) involves a $10 rebate that will print when you make your purchase at BB.

To get the pricematch, all I did was carry in the MicroCenter ad, go to the service desk and ask for the PM. They were very accomodating (I always try doing PM's when there are a lot of people standing in line, they don't scrutinize anything too hard).

BB will PM other stores, plus 10% more (of the reduced price).

Good luck.

Like you said good luck. I have never gotten any best buy to even price match a local competitor let alone web based. Its all just luck.

VaG,

Sorry to hear of your bad experiences. My local BB might be the exception to the rule. Also, they are competing with a CC, CUsa and MC, all within a few miles of each other. YMMV.
