I did a video card upgrade and have a question about it.
Here's the system:
AMD X2 4200+ (windsor)
ATI Radeon HD 3870
Abit NF-M2
4 gb DDR2 (4x1)
2 7200 rpm sata drves
1 dvd-r drive
The PSU is a 550W AMS Mercury PP-5503 EPS
The box reads it as having 4 12v rails with 9/9/15/8.
The only problem is it only has 1 6 pin connector for the video card. I tried it for a while with a molex hooked up to the second 6 pin and it runs just fine but I'm worried about whether this can cause stress on the PSU if the 12v the molex's run off of is using too much current?
According to what I can find the 3870 doesn't even technically use enough power to need 2 6 pin connectors (ie it's there for headroom). Of course I've no idea if it splits the draw on both of them or not.
Any help would be appreciated.
