Let bonker buy them all. CRD media's price will only go lower or at this price $14-15. Dollar deflation is around the world.

My info regarding the composition of the 12X (not 8X) CDRs
is from running CD Identifier on the CD itself, NOT from the
description on Outpost's webpage.

I'll reiterate again: The 12X CDRs, which Outpost is selling for
$20 per spindle, are

Disc Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corp
Dye: Phtalocyanine (Type 6)
Nominal Capacity 702.83Mb (79m 59s 74f)

The 8X CDRs, which Outpost is selling for $15 per spindle are

Disc Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corp.
Dye type: Cyanine (Type 0)
Nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

By ALL accounts, Phtalocyanine is the better dye medium:
longer lasting, compatible with more players. Most/all of the
expensive disc lines use Phtalocyanine for the dye.

Bottom line: If you are buying discs as toss aways to distribute
music to friends or whatever, and if they are compatible with
everyone's players, go ahead and buy the $15 discs.

But for any data application or for greater compatibility, I'd
pay the extra 10 cents per disc and get the 12X rated discs.

Oh, and note that the bulk 100 pack CDRs that CompUSA sells for
$30 (on sale) are also Phtalocyanine...I would not buy the $15
packs thinking you're gonna make any money on them...Anyone would
be a fool to pay much more than $15-20 a pack for them!

well I just got 2 pack toady. They are KHypermedia never heard of them before, but the disks look great. They are the gold ones 80 min/700MB 12X so I'm quite pleased with them so far. Now to see how well they burn.

Sorry if I missed it but has anybody had success burning the 8x ones at 12x? Saving $10 would be kinda nice.

Does anyone know how 80-minute media behaves with a drive that only supports 74? I'm not trying to force an 80-minute burn, but I'm wondering if there any caveats ahead, or if the media would look exactly like a 74 to a drive that doesn't support 80.

Thanks

The site now says they are on Pre-Order! I guess they are all sold out. I went ahead and ordered two, but who knows when they will ship.

rseiler,

Are you sure that there is not a firmware upgrade for your drive to support 80 min?

Second, if you are using older burning software, it may not burn 80 min CD's. Get the latest version of your burning software of choice.
If the latest version doesn't support 80 min, there are plenty that do. Get another software if that's the case.

Bonkers325:

You know, I think I speak for a lot of people here when I say:
No one gives a rat's a** if you bought 200 packs or if you were
able to find enough suckers to make resale of those packs worthwhile.
Give it (and us) a rest.

If you find a hot deal, let us know. But please--we don't need
a play-by-play about how you spent a whopping $3000 on CDRs
($3000 woo-hoo bully for you imagine that...), when they arrived,
when you opened your first pack, how high you got when you smoked
the first one, or how high someone else must have been to allow
you to sell them at much of a profit. Take it to the e*bay
discussion boards or somewhere else.

Attention SAMUEL LEE.

Last week when Outpost had the deal on 14.95 50 pack of CDR, I ordered a pair (2 spindles).

However, I just called, and Outpost said they sent it to you.

Since it was probably my fault for not checking everything thoroughly (I think you posted a link with your session
ID, so you address info showed up in my order), can you please just send me back one of the spindles? Thanks

Just order 2 12x spindles. Btw, the 8x is in stock.
I guess bunker was kidding. I don't think anybody would spend $3000 on them.

Kwad Guy,

Are u sure Phtalocyanine is better than Cyanine?
The author of CDR ID said the best is Cyna... The Phtalocyanine is of
low quantity. I checked SONY and TDK. All of them are Cyna...
FYI.

Everything I've read has said the Phtalocyanine die is the
best...I also have a friend who works at in formulation for a
company that produces CDR blanks, and he said that Phtalocyanine
is the best currently used die formulation according to aging
and compatibility tests.

For anecdotal "proof", take a look at the Kodak "silver and gold"
or "gold and gold" CDR blanks. These are considered among the
best available, and the packages state that they have been
"proven" to last 6-12x longer than standard blanks. And they
use the Phtalocyanine die...

I could be wrong, but when I went ot look at outpost today, the Kingston 12x spindles (the 50pc and the 100pc) both say they use Cyanine Dye, NOT Phtalocyanine Dye...

Hmm, not the BEST deal, but the CDs are still high quality and burn nice...I haven't had any coasters with em.
