When I was there, the streets were not closed. That was in the middle of the 2 1 lane 1 way streets on the sides (I believe they were 1 way). But people cross streets without even looking. The cars there are going slow down those streets too just due to the people traffic.Looking at photo purbeast posted, it seems like the street would be closed to vehicle traffic? I'm assuming they would've beefed up security in recent months at entry/exit points...How did the van get through??

I have a question, since this was the EXACT SAME ACT as Charlottesville, what makes this terrorism and UVA not? Since it is the exact same act it must be the number of people killed. So far there are 13 so what number from 2 to 13 did we cross the terrorism threshold??
The method of inflicting harm was the same (i.e. ramming people with a vehicle), but I fail to see how these are the same thing. Now, I haven't read a ton about what happened, but from what I've heard, the ramming in Charlottesville was when a person on one side of the protest attacked a person on the other side. Now, Barcelona appears to be someone attacking completely unsuspecting citizens. I've looked at the former as an extreme escalation of tensions at a protest and the latter as more of an act of terrorism.
Now, the main difference between terrorism and simply trying to commit mass vehicular manslaughter is the point of the action. If a driver just snapped and decided to try to kill people with their car, that isn't terrorism regardless of the person's nationality or religious leanings. If the person did it to inflict fear upon people for religious or political reasons, that's terrorism. Bombing an abortion clinic due to being pro-life is another example of terrorism. Albeit, that does make it hard to judge Charlottesville, because the vehicle's driver had political motives too. The biggest difference is that there was already some tension between the two where the other was unsuspecting.
