run that cat6 (not cat5) yourself.
Nothing is easier. When everything is studded up, drive over on a weekend with a box of cable, and some palsticm single nail clamps and start stringing that stuff up. Nail up some boxes where where you plan to have the equipment and just run the cables through them and tie them off for now.
You'd be amazed at how friggin protective some builders are. They think they are doing you a favor building the house. It doesn't go in unless they put it in. If they didn't put it in, they'll rip it out. That's why I suggested approaching the electrical sub.
Don't let the subcontractors park in the driveway while the house is under construction your driveway will end up an oil stained mess. Most places the drive is the last concrete poured.

Something similar to this:
Wait a minute - is that a garage door, with no driveway or anything leading up to it?
I noticed that too, but it also means no dehumidifier. Fuck dehumidifiers, I have to empty mine every day and hump the tank up the basement stairs like the goddam sorcerer's apprentice because I don't have a drain in the basement.
Thats just a model home. Congrats Sunny!!!
I have never heard of basement without drain. Where is your mechanical room?
I've got a house built by the same builder. They are very cookie cutter. You have a lot of options to choose from but they are all about doing it THEIR way.How much are they charging you for the stuff?
A 1000' of Cat5e (more than enough for residential...don't fret cat6) is $80
Carlton low voltage boxes are $1.25 each
A bag of 50 staples is $1.50
In case your builder hasn't check current events, the builders confidence score is in the shitter. Does he really want to piddle around with such a small detail?
Show up with the materials and see if you can work something out.

Don't have a mechanical room. The Furnace and hot water heater are just sort of sitting in the middle of the basement.
So I was wrong when I said there's no plumbing in the basement, what I should have said is that there's no toilet, sink or anything like that. And yes, I could probably rig something, but I'm working on a bunch of other thing on the house and that is just low on the list.

Why is your dirt red?

There's no plumbing in the basement, where would the pump pump to?

You don't even need boxes in most areas since its low-voltage cable.
Right, but a new house I'd think you want a nice clean look on your walls.
Long story short, is anywhere where coax was terminating for TV I'd put an RJ45 jack in the wall too with a cat6 run to the closet.
ok last post on this with apologies to SunnyD for clogging his thread. House has central air but is very old (1915). I'll take a look when I get home but I think the condensate runs in a very thin plastic tube (not even sure what this is called) and punches into a pipe.
