yeah i'm sure most of us read those reviews and argued about gddr vs. gddr2 vs gddr3 when the 5700u came out

i got my mind set on 256 bit gddr3

thanks for the input everyone

256bit bus, not mb. bus width is what makes the 5900xt better than any 5700 regardless of how much or what kind of ram it has.

I would suggest saving more cash and purchasing a 6800, x800 pro or an 6800 gt .
You have a 3.3 ghz cpu, why not get a card that your cpu is equal to or one that your cpu bottle necks?
If you only have $200.00 I would get a 9800 pro.

I think everyone was (understandably) distracted by your GDDR3 comment, but I'll answer your original questions. The 5700U's shader performance really was that bad compared to the 9600XT, and a 5700U would be a big upgrade from a 5200--but still not a smart buy.

You've waited this long, wait a little more for 6800s to get cheaper, or for nV to release a new card this fall with their new 8-pipe chip.

Not a response to anyone in this thread, just a word of caution to all.... EVERY website I've seen so far advertising 6800 Ultra's , has in fact only had 6800GT's, including BOTH the links on "Anands picks" on the main page... every link I've seen to an actual "Ultra" has been for pre-order only, so be sure to read the fine print
when ordering... if you WANT a 6800GT thats not a bad choice, I just want to make sure everyone gets what they pay for, not a nasty surprise in the mail.

best advice yet
i'm just gonna wait a bit longer
the 6800gt just went from 400 to 500 bucks on newegg hahaha

i just won't be content with a 5700u even if i can get one for under 150
and the fx5900xt just won't feel worth the money when compared to 6800's and x800's

i'll just wait and get a gt when they are 300 bucks

Now I realize why no one answered the current OP--you changed the questions from the *original* OP.

Anyway, I think waiting is a good choice, if you can still stomach that 5200.
