also, there's a telling social commentary that the kid has no idea how to get to school. by 14 i knew every single street, alley, loading dock, bike path, creek bank, underpass, etc, along with several of the storm sewers, in every neighborhood for several miles in any direction around my house.
i'm pretty shitty with following directions while walking to a place. i got lost in upper Manhattan once and I was freaking out trying to find the subway back to midtown lol.

i'm pretty good getting to places when i'm driving however.

What does your question have to do with anything?
Just pointing out that Paratus' statement was not the absolute he thought it was. I can see now that my response required a bit too much thought and detachment from emotion which made it difficult for some to comprehend.

Next time I'll try to make it more concise by using fewer words.

I'm impressed he still made the effort to get there though. Next time he'll just stay home.

What if your home had been broken into recently by a black teen?

I still wouldn't shoot another guy in the back. How in anyway possible is it ok to shoot someone in the back that knocked on your door?

Sure generally people knock on the door before they break in. They are usually doing it to make sure no ones home before breaking in. If you answer they head to your neighbors house. On very rare occasions they use a cute girl to knock on the door to get you to open the door so they can barge in. I don't get very many knocks on my door and don't live in the greatest neighborhood so I tend to answer the door with a pistol behind my back just in case. Never once thought about shooting someone in the back as they run away. In this case I would've given the kid directions.

Can't the owner just say, " i opened the door and this person was reaching for what I thought was a gun..." that seems to work pretty much all of the time for police.

they have a ring doorbell which should have recorded the situation.

Oh it was entirely an absolute statement.

If your first and only thought...

I could see someone maybe at first thinking the person at the door is a robber after being robbed if the person on the other side of the door had something in common with the robbers. But only thinking that they are a robber because that something in common is they don’t look like you. That’s racist.

So are folks who ask “what about if you got robbed by a black person.... “

When my dad was a teen he was wondering around some farmland with his buddies. Some crazy grumpy farmer started running after them with a shot gun yelling about trespassing and started shooting. My pops got hit with some buckshot in the ass but was so far away at that point it just left a little welt.

This story is proof positive that some people, for some strange reason, live their entire existences fueled by a fear center that has gone completely haywire. They have lost the ability to rationally think any more when put into certain circumstances and consequently, should probably not have access to things that can shoot their boogeyman...

Hopefully this ends the same way that Ted Wafer's story did... (if there is true guilt)

Holy shit, just checked Google to see if I spelled his name wrong and voila!

This, ironically enough from today, Friday the 13th:

Will have to update that thread...

When people talk about defensive gun use to prevent crimes you should be aware that it’s extremely likely that the homeowners would describe this as ‘defensive’.
There is absolutely nothing defensive about the way this idiot used his shotgun. I hope he is convicted of a felony so he never gets to own a gun again.

Question I have especially for 2A absolutists, if there were no footage who's story would you believe? I'm asking in the context of stories like this we have had over the years. One that comes to mind Jordan Davis.

Second question I have why is a guy like this allowed to own a gun? Why shouldn't as part of obtaining a license a behavioral/psychological screening be required. His distrust of back people and violent tendencies would have been revealed.

I lived in Rochester Hills for a few years. Quite a nice place really, but I definitely met my fair share of uppity people there... sadly this does not surprise me that racism could still linger there (which is what this story definitely has a hint / heavy hint of).

Why? What would you do? Open the door and attempt to murder a 14 year old by shooting him in the back as he was running away?

Seriously. It's beyond telling where your empathy and concern immediately goes here.

Wow. I would take the time to explain to you just why this is racist as fuck, but I see others have tried and failed.

If you would like to honestly have a conversation about your deep seated racism that you're so obviously blind to, let me know.

By this idiotic logic, the next time this kid innocently knocks on a stranger's door and an old whitey opens, he better hope he's packing so he can put down that violent home owner. After all, 100% of the homes he innocently came up were owned by psychos who attempted to murder him.

A little surprising to me that there was nobody in the street he could have asked for directions. Does nobody ever walk anywhere in these places? It's just deserted streets and buildings with armed people holed up in them ready to start shooting at any caller? I didn't realise Fallout 3 was some sort of documentary. How did it come to this?

Short answer: Often, no. I've lived in many 'commuter neighborhoods' that are basically devoid of all life, human or animal.

It actually reminds me of an Isaac Asmimov story, The Naked Sun. There's a segment of humanity that lives on misc planets in complete isolation, only interacting with each other through Skype (basically), to the point that they're all such agoraphobic hermits that many are openly hostile toward others, while some are purely afraid, and some others are superbly fascinated with physical interaction.

These two probably lived alone, in a very white neighborhood, hung out with very white friends, and watched very conservative (sorry conservative posters, you can't argue this shit) media, convincing them that the darkies are around every corner, waiting to bust in their home. To the point that even witnessing a young black male near them brought them to the point of defensive aggression, akin to a cornered wild cat or snake.

... While the police seem to be doing the right thing what do you want to bet there ends up being no punishment for either home owner.

...
I'll take that bet. The man that fired the gun will be punished somehow.

Bad homeowner and even worse gun owner. What is the rule of how to handle a gun as a gun owner? Identify the target BEFORE you pull the trigger. From what I understand, the kid was outside, never inside the house, therefore, the homeowner had no justification to shoot.

Remind me a story a few years back. A black girl was drunk late at night and crashed into a ditch. She left her car in the ditch, walked for a while then tried to open a house she thought it was her house. The white homeowner inside the house shot her to death. I think he is in jail now. There was a thread in P+N somewhere.

To the poster that said he was lost in NYC. Goodness, how could that possible. The whole city is in a fairly small island and almost the whole setup is in a grid (N+S+E+W).
