Venusian one of the few the proud the great FW'ers posted at FW:

269.99 Cendyne DVD-R/RW

- 30 coupon
_______
189.99 out the door
- 50 MIR
_______
139.99 not too shabby

better yet, pricematch it at Staples who has it for 299.98

its for 216.99 at OM

so 299.98
- 91.30
_________
208.68
- 50 coupon
_________
158.68 out the door
- 50 MIR (assuming its manufacturer's)
_________
108.68

It was called to our attention, by me, at FW that all you geeks here at AT love to shout specs SO.
Would one of you geeks tell us the downlow on this drives future compatibility.

"drives future compatibility"

The war between +R and -R isn't ending anytime soon as far as I've read.

I have the DVR-A05 (105) which is Pioneer 4x (Cendyne Package). Burns great! I haven't tried 4x since I built a new box to do the burning rather than spend extra money on the 4x discs. Buy the discs in bulk. I get my certified 2x blanks for under a dollar each when I get 25 or more.

from what i read in the FW thread, the rebate is NOT manufacturer's

have you looked into it personally? if not, why are you posting this (edit: the $110 PM) as a deal. i just looked and the rebate available 11/24-12/24 was indeed Office Max and not Cendyne.

This is hot to me! For $140, I'm a happy camper. Humm. Not quite sure what the difference between -R and +R is?

Because it sounds better, don't you agree?

I dont understand why people have a hard time with the rebate. If they took the time to go to Office Max
website and do a search on cendyne they would see the rebate is valid from 12/29-1/25/03

Here is a link for the LAZY

I think there is a $40 off $200 coupon out there.....use that instead of the $30 off stated above.

Don't forget 4% back from ebates....

so it is indeed an OM rebate, so the $110 isn't going to happen. It may sound better but it's not going to work!

Well, if the MIR is OM only, you should still be able to get Staples to PM it (w/ some luck.. see the thread on the 120gb maxtor thread here).. so:

299.98
- 142.99 (110% PM guarantee. OM price after rebates = $169.99 )
_______

156.99
- 30.00 ($30 off $100/150 coupon)
_______
$126.99 = final price

Should work for phone orders anyways (a lot of ppl in the maxtor thread had lots of luck PMing store specific rebates this way).

Just a thought anyways, whether or not it'll work for anyone is another story

Good price, BUT the drive has some issues. Review:

"The Lowdown: CenDyne's DVR-104 works well for authoring home DVDs, and a few updates make it a better deal than its predecessor. But this device is a bit slow compared to DVD+RW drives with second-generation DVD+R capability". http://www.zdnet.com/supercenter/stories/overview/0,12069,560762,00.html

Edit: You can see that this is the older version, not the DVR-05, from this site:
http://www.cendyne.com/product.asp?pid=3 --> 2x1x6 (burn 2x, reburn 1x, read 6x). Too bad

I don't think it can be price-matched with Staples, who has the newer version of this drive. I bet the CSRs can read the product description Oh well.

This is definitely a YMMV deal, but man did I score on this drive... I armed myself with a print out of the OM Ad, a print out of the Office Max mail in rebate, and a $30 off of $150 coupon for Staples. Walk in and no questions asked Staples does a price match on the DVR-104. Out the door for $140 + tax. I then start thinking that I'd really like to have the DVR-105, so I run to Office Max to see if they have both the dvr-104's and dvr-105's on the shelf, sure enough they do. I talk to the manager and tell him that I have an unopened DVR-104 that was a *cough* gift, that I would like to exchange for the dvr-105 and pay the difference... no problem at all. So I'm doing the exchange and I really made out like a bandit. 1st of all, the dvr-104 and dvr-105 turned out to be the same price, so no cost to upgrade. Next, the customer service rep decided to ring up the return of the DVR-104 to a gift card, and then ring the DVR-105 through as a new purchase, thus making me eligible for the OM $50 rebate!! The Manager even printed out the rebate reciept and gave me a rebate booklet.

So here is the run down....

$170 DVR-104 (Staples pm to OM)
-$30 Saples Coupon
-$280 DVR-104 returned to OM
$280 DVR-105 at OM
-50 Mail in rebate

Price? $90 + the tax I paid on the $140 purchase from staples (about $10)!!

Christmas came twice for me this year

Does anyone know if Office Max has the option for instore pickup on web orders. I am going for the Cendyne deal tomorrow so I tried to check their order system by going through the motion of ordering one. Got all the way to the end and it never gave the option.

Thanks

OM does not have web(.com) instore pickup option but the instore crew can do .com PM( YMMV ) and order for .com delivery to you

So, Is it even possible to get this deal if they don't post the new price/IR on the website? I ask because We get nowhere when we try to get our B&M officeMax to accept online coupons, it's like they've all been trained specifically not to allow any online coupons, and it prevents us from getting any hot deals; unless we're missing something... is there some ay to convert these online coupons into something they will take in the store,

thanks,
dave

The $40 off $200 coupon is slick. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. $129.99 + tax after rebates is not a bad deal at all for this drive.

Oh yeah, it is the 105 4x burner.
How did you manage that? Was it a B&M (in-store) purchase? I heard from the older Verbatim DVD+R thread that they were substituting that drive for the Cendyne -R drives. If I wanted a +R drive, I'd buy one. I don't want them substituting a different type of drive.

Same here, I got the 105 4x burner. I went to B&M , explained I ordered online, showed the order # & printed out the $25 off $100. They finally understood I just wanted to do in-store pick up & cancel my online. They also balked @ taking an OM on-line coupon. Also no go on my local store(s) taking any Staples coupons anymore. Makes it harder . They did allow thier own "referal ID accepted" but were very firm on the NO STAPLES dealio. I need some more of those "present this coupon with your next in-store purchase" cards I used to get in the mail, those are sweet.
