I picked up a 4x drive too. My OM was offering the 4x drive when the 2x drive was sold out. Mgr even pointed out that there are 2 different sku's listed in the ad along with the wording "models may vary by store" The 4x drive rings up the same price as the 2x.

At the register, I pulled out a $30 off Staples coupon and cashier said they don't take competitors coupons. He called some other know-it-all that said the same thing. I told him the Mgr does it for me all the time and I proceeded to call him over. Mgr told the employees of course he would take a Staples coupon. My store Mgr doesn't like calculating IR and dollar off coupons so he just punched in $169.99 and said there you go $119.99 plus tax after $50 rebate ain't too shabby!

I have the $50 MIR and the $50 IR, but all of the coupons I have found are for OfficeMax.com Internet Site. The Internet site doesn't have the DVD-RW drives on it. Can anyone PM a hint if I am missing something? I've been waiting for a deal like this for some time now.

Thanks,

Looks like Office Max yanked the drive from their site. Nothing comes up.....

So much for trying a PM at Staples too.

IDE hard drives are approaching $1/GB and pricing is continuing to fall.

Which is cheaper for direct access archival storage?

DVD, CD-ROM, IDE hard drives?

I'm thinking that the total costs (labor, time, effort, media and storage) to index, burn, store and retrieve physical platters is greater than $1/GB hard drives.

My local OM has the 105 4x drive. The MFR rebate coupon has check boxes for both the 104 and 105 so no problems with the product substitution.

I tried twice with Staples, first time was a flat no price match on anything. Second time, the best they'd do was the 50 instant rebate. Since I couldn't tell which drive Staples had (the 104 or the 105) I didn't do it. Even tho I had a 30 off 150 coupon.

So my net was:

269.95 List
50 Instant Rebate

219.99 Net
14.85 Tax (6.75% IL)

234.84 Out the Door
50 MFR MIR

184.84 Eventual Net

Not bad for my first foray into DVD!

BTW, I grabbed the last one the store had (called CS this am and they held it for me)

Hmm Staples.com will only pricematch to $219.99. The claim that the $50 MIR is a manufacturers rebate and that they don't price match that rebate It is a notation listed in their computer

Picked up the last one in South Orange County tonight Had to try 3 stores before I found a 4x drive.

Even used a Staples $30 coupon, so that's $155 with tax & after rebate :Q

Now for some cheap media......

Now what am I going to do with the 250 blank cdr's I still have

Print out the rebate from OfficeMax web site, hi-lite the part where it says "On purchases made at Office Max", and bring it with you. That way, they won't argue it's the manufacturer's rebate, because 1. Staples doesn't list it, and 2. You have a printout of the OFFICE-MAX rebate.

Keep insisting that it is their POLICY, and that it is the OFFICE-MAX store rebate.

Good luck.

The same thing happened to me also. I wanted to ask what happens when I open the box and there is no rebate to be found but never made it that far into the transaction.

This is definitely a YMMV deal, but man did I score on this drive... I armed myself with a print out of the OM Ad, a print out of the Office Max mail in rebate, and a $30 off of $150 coupon for Staples. Walk in and no questions asked Staples does a price match on the DVR-104. Out the door for $140 + tax. I then start thinking that I'd really like to have the DVR-105, so I run to Office Max to see if they have both the dvr-104's and dvr-105's on the shelf, sure enough they do. I talk to the manager and tell him that I have an unopened DVR-104 that was a *cough* gift, that I would like to exchange for the dvr-105 and pay the difference... no problem at all. So I'm doing the exchange and I really made out like a bandit. 1st of all, the dvr-104 and dvr-105 turned out to be the same price, so no cost to upgrade. Next, the customer service rep decided to ring up the return of the DVR-104 to a gift card, and then ring the DVR-105 through as a new purchase, thus making me eligible for the OM $50 rebate!! The Manager even printed out the rebate reciept and gave me a rebate booklet.

So here is the run down....

$170 DVR-104 (Staples pm to OM)
-$30 Saples Coupon
-$280 DVR-104 returned to OM
$280 DVR-105 at OM
-50 Mail in rebate

Price? $90!

Christmas came twice for me this year

Hehe Nice Job!!! But you should definitely include a "Do Not Try This At Home" disclaimer

How is this anything other than fraud?

Funny how people get all in a twist whenever a store manager makes a price match difficult, but blatantly ripping a store off -- hey, nice job!

Thanks to all concerned for pointing this deal out.
I also got the 4X version for the $219.xx + tax with a $50.00 dollar rebate to mail in.
Anyone have a good source for the HS 4X blanks, LMK.
Thanks,
Mike G

Ok, I just bought the 4x drive from OM for $269.99 - $50 = $219.99. At checkout they printed both a regular sales receipt and a second REBATE RECEIPT for me. I then went to Staples and PM'ed the same drive down to $211.99 - $30 (staples coupon) = $181.99. Now, I know that the $50 MIR is for OM only, but why can't I just return the OM drive and send in the UPC from the Staples drive along with the REBATE receipt that OM printed out for me? Does Cendyne track the UPC codes and know which drives went to which stores?

Also, are people having luck with getting OM to take the $30 staples coupon? Is this a nationwide OM policy, or just if you get a nice manager?

Thanks,
Aaron
