I'm evaluating near line raid arrays with fiber channel connections. i think i've narrowed it down to San Digital EliteRaid ER316FD with 1TB drives in each slot. anyone had any experience with this array or sans digital, good or bad? any other fiber channel arrays anyone would recommend? size is not really an issue, but i need good performance as currently 2 video production editors need to connect to this array with the possibility of 6 or 8 total. thanks!

yes, that would be a 1TB sata drive in each slot. I want raid 6, since i'm using that many sata drives. how well does your dell cx300 operate? what kind of speeds do you see? what load level? my video editors can't have drive drops or their rendering goes to pot. they are currently running off of firewire 800 external drives, so they need at least 80mb/s performance, and faster is always good.

No hitches so far (knock on wood). Very easy/intuitive to use the NaviSphere interface.

Its not monitored so I can't say. Definitely not being taxed though.

I have 4x73GBx15KRPM, 26x146GBx15KRPM, and 15x500GBx7.2KRPM.

We have the EMC AX4 and the EMC CX3-20 , and they work great with no problems with our high IO Solaris database and MS Exchange servers. We are currently looking into their DMX950 or CX3-80 for another extreme IO AIX DB2 & Linux cluster running Apache project. We are leaning towards the CX3-80 because it is cheaper and uses the same easy NaviSphere software as the little ones.

For the new project we'll be using 15K rpm FC drives in RAID1+0 on the array. The hosts will have dual 2 port FC HBA's , PowerPath is installed on the host for multi-pathing and load balancing and we are going thru dual Brocade 4GB FC switches to the array.
