And $7 for nachos? Holy crap, I have to take out a 2nd mortgage to go watch a movie these days. I tell you what though... it was all worth it to see the Dude as the jedi knight of the grid.

Since theatres charge an extra two or three bucks for 3D....yea.

That extra equipment isn't free to them either.

$15?! Was that Imax or something?

I try and go to showings before noon, those are $5 around here. Later showings are something like $9 I think.

Should have watched The Dude as a US Marshall instead. (True Grit)

It's a consensus.

If you live where they charge 15 dollars for a regular ticket, the rest of your life is going to be expensive as well. So that would hardly be the deal breaker.

IMAX is the only thing I watch now if I go to the movies, which means I will only bother to go if really worth it. Seeing the Dude use the force was totally worth it. The Dude as a marshall... it looks awesome but maybe not worth the money to watch in theater.

This is why i put some money into good home audio/vid equipment and just buy movies on blu ray now. Have only seen like 5 movies in theaters in 5 years.

That and netflix. That shit is so awesome. Last saturday we had a marathon of watching Boondocks and drinking beer. Does the theatre let you drink beer and can you drive home drunk from the theatre? No? Well then fuck theatres.

Tickets are going up even more in 2011 anyways....

I guess Hollywood is raising all kinds of prices. Charging rentals companies more. I think the price of DVDs and Blu-Rays are going up too?

It's lame.

I am not defending the theater but when you go to the movies you are not paying for the movie you are watching but the theater experience. It amounts to the same thing as going to a theme park. You don't pay for the rides you pay for the experience of being there. Having said that, prices for going to the theater have gone up as well as the food while the experience has gone down. This is the reason so many theaters have gone under in recent years.

3D is a frigging joke, I think it's funny how almost all the kids movies are now in 3D. I have 2 kids they can't stand wearing the glasses. Great idea lets make a movie that kids want to see, charge extra, and then make them hate the experience by making them wear glasses that are designed for adults! When these kids get old enough to go by themselves I don't see them going to the theater. Movie theaters are killing themselves.

Wow I never thought of them not offering kid sized glasses?

Eh I have yet to hear a 3D movie that has came out and been hyped where people said the 3D was worth it. Usually it's always that the 3D wasn't great or just see it in 2D.

I think I have seen two 3D films? Avatar which I enjoyed & Resident Evil: After Life which I knew the movie would be crap. I figured it would be dumb popcorn fun. It was alright....Needed more over the top Wesker....The 3D was okay? Needed more silly 3D moments lol. I should have seen Piranha 3D instead....However I got dragged to see After Life. Ugh....

Perhaps 3D is a gimmick. Well see how the masses wears those glasses at Home.

As for 2011....Well see how many decide to bite the bullet to still go and see movies.

The entertainment business in general has been on a suicide march for a long time. They are providing less and less enjoyable entertainment while complaining more and more about how terrible the consumer is. The phrase "The customer is always right" is completely foreign to them.

Itunes is the perfect example of this. Love it or hate it, I-tunes signified a great boon for the ability to get music. Yet the tech needed to make it possible had literally been around for more than a decade. Yet the RIAA and their ilk went bezerk over people trying to download music off of the internet. Rather than realizing that "Hey, maybe we could charge them for this." They just figure that everyone would steal all of their moneys from them.

The movie industry has been on a similar track. Going to a movie is crazy any more. We pay exorbitant prices, if you arrive on time you get rewarded with 30 minutes of commercials, heaven help you if you arrive early. All to see what a train wreck hollywood has become. Good movies are rare; it is disgusting.

Screw you hollywood. I seriously hope your industry goes bankrupt, then maybe we can get something decent to take its place. You produce maybe 1 good idea a year, then 5000 remakes of old ideas that were once good. Stop putting out this crap.

Considering how quickly even blockbuster movies hit the shelves on DVD and Blu-ray, I say learn a little patience, build a home theater, and have a much better experience. The wife and I have not been to the public theater in about seven years.

We've got a $2 movie theater here that shows second run movies. Basically movies just out on DVD or will be shortly. The screen is small and the sound systems crappy, but hey, it's $2.

And Tuesday nights is $1 movie night. You can't even rent a movie for that.

$5 at AMC during the weekday ... otherwise IMAX + friday/sat/sun = $16...normal movies are $10.

I buy movie tickets through work for the big expensive theatre here, so they come out to around $7.26 per film, plus I have a rewards card which gets me free movies, so averaging it out, it works out to be a pretty decent price. Otherwise I stick to smaller theatres and/or matinees.
