The industry is working on releasing movies even earlier than their current range (~90-120 days after release) for video streaming.

It is a new gimmick - they want to charge $30-$60 for you to stream it before it becomes widely available. It isn't officially in place but thats what they're going for.

$6.5 matinee show per ticket (3D will cost extra). Eat and drink at home before you go to the movie.

Since theatres charge an extra two or three bucks for 3D....yea.

That extra equipment isn't free to them either.

If I bring my glasses in, they should knock off 2 of the 3 bucks since I'm not costing them equipment fees.

No cuz you're paying for the seat in a 3-D theater. The value is in the seat not the glasses.

Buy tix from Costco or Internet for 8 bucks a piece problem solved. IMAX/3D = premium features that command premium prices.

Re: concessions. Get your SO a bigger handbag so you can smuggle more food in?

I agree with the theater experience thing - some movies, the theater experience makes them awesome. But, the only way to get that theater experience is if it's the first showing of the film, at midnight, and the place is packed with fans of the genre. Otherwise, the theater experience has been replaced with people sending and receiving text messages all over the place - constant flashes of bright light distracting from the film; not to mention other acts of rudeness.

Yeah I used to see movies all the time in the theatres, but I rarely see 1 a month now. When I do, I use my student ID (even though I graduated last year), and get tickets for $7.75.

I watch most of my movies at home, much more comfortable.

I haven't been to college in 8 years. I still have a college ID, and use it.

The movie industry has been on a similar track. Going to a movie is crazy any more. We pay exorbitant prices, if you arrive on time you get rewarded with 30 minutes of commercials, heaven help you if you arrive early. All to see what a train wreck hollywood has become. Good movies are rare; it is disgusting.

Screw you hollywood. I seriously hope your industry goes bankrupt, then maybe we can get something decent to take its place. You produce maybe 1 good idea a year, then 5000 remakes of old ideas that were once good. Stop putting out this crap.

Relative to inflation the cost of going to a movie has actually decreased over the last couple decades.

I don't know why people get this idea that Hollywood only churned out great classics back in the 30s-60s. The amount of very forgettable (yet profitable) fare they made would stun you.

You hope most of those are fans - there are still the occasional texters, flashes of bright light, people yapping, etc.

The best time to see a film in the theater is the first showing on a Monday morning about 2-3 weeks after release date - [nearly] everyone is at work so you get to sit in a near empty theater and can enjoy it without any interruptions from texters/flashes or some contagiously sick asshole who manages to plop right down next to you and cough/sneeze during the entire movie.

Theaters suck in all possible ways. Staying at home has been a much better deal for decades. You can eat whatever you want, drink anything, its all much cheaper, more comfortable, you can pause the flick, no assholes throwing shit and spilling garbage.

And I dont care if Hollywood hurts for lack of ticket sales. They need a swift boot in the ass anyway.

I don't even bother going to movies anymore unless it is something I REALLY want to see. You know it is bad when in many cases, you can wait and actually OWN the blu ray of a movie for less than the price for you and your SO to go see it in the theater.

Damn, this thread is filled with a bunch of cheap fogies. The theater is an experience and some movies need to be seen there. Seeing the original Star Wars when they were rereleased in theaters with all the fans was awesome.

If you can't appreciate the emotion of the crowd and fans getting into a movie and having fun with that, you shouldn't be going to the theater. You should be at home watching the Golden Girls and drinking your Metamucil.
