ok, i have this computer for about a month and half now. At first I was only overclocking be the multiplier. its a oem t-bird 850, I got it stable at 950 at 1.80 volts.

by the way i'm using a msi pro2a (i got it for only $115 shipped, and its been good to me)

I didn't do the bridges very good, so it won't post at 900, only 950+. I don't have very steady hands so don't feel like doing the bridges over.

Okay, after about a month I decided screw multiplier overclocking lets go FSB.
I upped it to 108 and it remains stable on default voltage. Screw that, upped it to 109 had to disable 4x AGP (no biggie) and had to set ram at cas3 (no biggie). Upped it to 110, set vcore to 1.80. Running stable at 850@935.

Problem now is that when I up it to 111 FSB I start to get errors. I can get into windows run most programs okay but when I run say 3dMark2000 it gets F#*ked up.

Okay, heres the thing I know it can go up to 112 FSB if I set the Ram down (i got this one stick of pc133 cas2 ram) . So what i'm asking is well I get a performace boost setting this baby up to 112 FSB with my Ram running slower at 100+ Cas2, or stick with 110 FSB running the Ram at 133+ cas3.

If I set it to 112 FSB, i'll get about 15-17 more MHZ. I want to tweak this baby to maximum. Thanks for the info.

edit: i got all the other stuff, arctic silver, fop38. Temperature constant at about 39-40 degrees C. Highest is 42 degrees C. temps taken for MBM 5/bios

some more edits: decided to stick to 850@935, wasn't worth the extra 17 mhz for slower ram.

Good choice Anon19, faster ram beats a few mhz on the cpu every time!
It is nice to see those big numbers on the cpu, but it makes little diff if your system runs slow.
I could push my P3 700e up past 1ghz if I slowed on the ram, but it's just not worth it.
You have to decide what's a big enough number on the cpu to keep you happy and stave off temptation to go for that next big fat overclockable cpu for a while, for me it's 1 ghz
with ram set at fastest possible.
I know there are guys out there with P4 1.5ghz @ 1.88ghz now, and that's very nice for them
but for my bang for the buck what I've got now is enough for now.
Next leap has to be at least up to 2Ghz.

follow up for any interested: after consideration, it simply dawned on me that I should just up the vcore. After setting the vcore to 1.825 (was originally set to 1.8) I was able to keep it stable at 850@952 and keep the ram speed at 133+ cas3.

Didn't want to press my luck at upping the FSB anymore since i've read that my board sucks for overclocking via FSB, was amazed i could do 112 in the first place.

maybe in the future, i'll redo the bridges and possibly hit 1GHZ. But for today, I don't want to go through the trouble of taking the HSF off and putting it back on again since I almost broke the clip off of my Fop38 last time.
