15 sex offenders in a trailer park with 24 homes...?!?

Allen County sheriff's investigators said in an affidavit that 39-year-old Michael Plumadore admits he killed Aliahna Lemmon on Dec. 22.
According to the affidavit, Plumadore told police that after beating Aliahna to death, he stuffed her body into trash bags and hid her in the freezer at his trailer. He said he later chopped up her body and stuffed her remains into freezer bags.


Police said Plumadore told them he had hidden Aliahna's head, feet and hands at his trailer and that he had discarded her other remains at a nearby business. Police obtained a warrant to search his trailer on Monday and found the body parts.
A judge ordered Plumadore held without bail or bond at an initial hearing Tuesday, sheriff's department spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said. He has yet to be formally charged in Aliahna's death.





Aliahna and her two younger sisters were staying with Plumadore because their mother had been sick with the flu.
Plumadore told The Journal Gazette on Sunday that Aliahna disappeared from his home Friday morning while he was sleeping after having gone to a gas station about a mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store's surveillance video shows him there about that time.
More than 100 emergency workers searched for her Saturday around the rundown mobile home park where Aliahna and Plumadore lived and FBI agents were there Monday.


A state website shows that 15 registered sex offenders live in the park that numbers about two dozen homes. Plumadore is not on Indiana's registered sex offenders list. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that includes convictions for trespassing and assault.

I remember reading in article that they often get segregated into certain neighborhoods because they aren't allowed to live within a certain radius of schools. Since most urban and suburban areas have at least one nearby school they end up all squeezed into the places that don't.

This is pretty much it. When the law discriminates, they are forced to live in certain areas.

Yeah, SO's are clustered together. Also fire is hot! Some SO's have to go so far as to live near or even in the woods due to the lack of places they can legally reside in.

They don't actually prevent crime. I have never heard of an instance where it was beneficial to anybody, including the community.

Note that this doesn't seem to be a sexually motivated crime, just a guy who felt like hitting a kid on the head with a brick over and over again.

Very sad story indeed. However, re: doomed, who's to say? I'm not going to dig up what those 15 sex offenders did. If you were on a sports team, and while your bus was pulling out of the opposing school's parking lot, you drops your pants and mooned the other team out the window = now you're on the sex offender registry. If you were 17 and your girlfriend was 16, and had sex, no problem. But then you had your 18th birthday and her parents didn't like you. = Now you're on the sex offender registry (depending on the state.) You solicited a prostitute in Vegas & got caught - now you're on the list. Do these three cases sound like "oh no! Those little girls are in danger!" That's the problem with the list - it paints a scarlet letter on people who are NOT a danger to society. (Not to say that no one on the list is a danger - some people are, and the way the list is set up, now it takes a lot more work to figure out who may pose a danger.)

Sex offender registries as currently constructed are absurd. As DrPizza points out, they don't differentiate between someone who urinated in public and someone who raped a dozen little boys. There HAS to be a distinction between those two crimes if the list is to have any meaning whatsoever. There's a whole bunch of stuff that's on the sex offender registry right now that should simply be taken off; it would make the list a whole lot more meaningful if it only had violent sex crimes on it, wouldn't it?

Thats pretty much it. Two serious problems the law has not been able to fix but they do manage to make it worse somehow.
