iPod headphones are shit, anyway. Get some Skull Candy earbuds.

skull candy might actually be worse than the factory earbuds.

Good point about the covered ears. Maybe he has a super skintight cap which would make the ksc-75s impractical or something?

I also would worry about the volume he's cranking out if he's using any non-sealed headphone while snowboarding.

Skull candy is pretty crappy indeed... unless you like excessive bass paired with crappy everything else.

No, really, though, what's the big deal? The earbuds that come with the iPod are complete garbage. Just buy some Koss KSC-75s for about $12 and be done with it, and have far superior sound to boot.

Another uneducated responses. I spent $30 on a sony replacement and they sound like absolute crap on my shuffle (And this was highly touted best headphones for its price range).

Keep in mind, the shuffle headphones are designed directly to match the iPod so they sound good together. Unless you plan on shelling out extravagant $$ for headphones, getting the factory replacement is far better than a crappy ass third party brands that'd sound like ass.

Come on ATOT, I thought you were better than this. Nothing but trolling?

I'm guessing your talking about Sony Fontopias, right? I had a pair before moving on to Shure E2C, and then E4C (the extravagant phones you speak of) and they sounded fine on my 4G U2 iPod, my computer, etc. The problem isn't the headphones, it's the source. Shuffles probably have a weak as balls amp. The pack-in headphones aren't 'designed directly to match the iPod so they sound good together', they're crappy low resistance/impedance headphones that sound good with a weak source. Sounds like someone complaining that race fuel isn't doing any good in their Pinto.

umm.. so you just PROVED my point that ipod factory headphones should go with the ipod??? is everyone dense today? we should all STFU (inclunding myself) and I'll just hit up local Apple store.

You guys did nothing but trashing the stupid ass ipod earbuds with egotistical ignorance. (And I can't stand apple myself).

Uh, no. I proved the point that Apple includes cheap headphones that fit a cheap amp. 15 dollar Sennheiser earphones sound better. Troll/textbook Apple fanboy.

More like he's saying that you might not get all the benefits of a better headphone since the shuffle sounds pretty crappy even on a good day. I find it really hard to believe that any decent low impedance headphone is going to sound worse on a shuffle. You'd have to favor hissing and anemic sound for that to be true.

He's probably using some EQ settings that are making those Fontopias sound 'bad'. Or surprised that he has to turn them up louder to get the same volume [more resistance = turn it up more, easy].

Wow, way to make this personal. I'm actually trying to help. You're the one pissing and moaning that the cheap pack-in headphones stopped working. I've already pointed out where you can buy new ones if you so desire, and now I'll point out where iLounge, popular iPod fanboy gathering as well as invaluable resource, praise every iteration of those Sonys you so dislike.

you can go to the apple store and they will give you a new pair of headphones...if you are unhappy with their headphones in general, just go try on some headphones, plug them into your shuffle and see which one fits/sounds the best. Then buy whichever ones you want. im satisfied with a $20 pair of sony headphones...not too much treble, but plenty of bass for my needs (i only use it for a couple of minutes before the battery dies).

It's the opposite of ignorant. It's highly informed trashing. I own two pair of the apple earphones and have listened to them on numerous music sources and compared them to KSC-75 and several other earphones. The apple ones are by far the worst. If you want to spend $30 on a pair of inferior earbuds then be my guest. If you want to spend your money more wisely, let us know.

The only headphones Sony sells for 30 bucks that are touted as the best of anything are MDR-EX51LP, aka Fontopias.
