Audiologist? Sounds more like something for an otolaryngologist.

That is quite awhile. I think something similar happened to me but eventually I was fine. Are you going to take a plane ride again sometime soon?

Unfortunately not. I was talking with a friend and they mentioned it had gone away after a few weeks, so I wanted to wait at least a few days before I start looking for consultations. However, it HAS been a week and I'm getting tired of it.

I've tried both decongestant and chewing gum, neither've worked.

Why would that make a difference?

maybe your ear canals are chock full of mucus. Supposedly consuming excessive amounts of dairy products increases mucus production. just a thought.

Here try this:

1. Take a deep breath
2. Keep your mouth closed
3. Shut your nostrils with one hand (very tightly)
4. Try blowing air out your nose with all your might, but make sure your nostrils are kept tight shut.

tell me if it worked.

Won't the air then just come out the tear duct next to the eye?

close your mouth, plug your nose with your thumb and forefinger and blow hard as if you were blowing your nose, do it quite a few times

thats why its recommended to chew gum, the jaw movement helps unplug these tubes

your inner ear has chambers that equalize pressure amongst the various sinus cavities and these can swell, plug or have a blockage

babies that cry on an aircraft are 75% of the time in pain due to the small size of these tubes that need to equalize

if that doesn't work, they may unblock on their own but if you have to fly again, see an ENT guy

I have horrible problems with ear pressure and flying. Hell, I've had one of my ears bleed after landing once. I have yet to find a good fix, but it seems to vary from plane to plane depending on how well the cabin is pressurized.

They make some earplugs for flying that are supposed to help but I have to try them.

You have to book a flight in the opposite direction to unpop your ears.

I have really bad sinuses......when the plane is descending, the pain is almost unbearable. Feels like my head is about 'splode. I will never fly again.

I think you have middle ear infection(ottis media). This happens when your nasal fluids go up into your middle ear and can't get back out. It feels like your ears popping, except never popping back. Do you hear stuff moving around when you move your head?
