Yeah, so did I.

I didn't have much of a choice, though. It was either that, or go without a computer.

Damn, how low is ram gonna go? I bought ram last year at ridiculous prices compare to now.

I stocked up when it was going for about $5/GB after rebate maybe five-six (?) months ago. Just got the last of the rebates back (thanks to Kingston and their barely competent customer service - no more Kingston rebates for me). I still have a decent pile left, so I'm going to hold out until it drops below $5/GB with rebates again. But this deal at $6.25/GB with no rebates is pretty damn hot!

Heh, I'd be all over it, but I'm not looking to upgrade at least until Win8 comes around... I'll pass, but good deal nonetheless!

Wow, DDR3 prices are so dirt cheap. Hmm, should I stock up on ANOTHER 16GB set of DDR3?

Has anyone used more than 8gigs of ram other than the machine being a server or hosting VM's?

I guess at $100.00 buy 16gig and forget about it till your next pc.

Yeap, I have a debian linux host running vmware server with 16GB's of the Super Talent DDR3 4GB modules posted in this forum. Also, the host machine is a core-i7 860 with 3xIntel 80GB in raid 0 (240GB) with an OCZ vertex 3 40GB boot drive and dual port PT Intel nic.

Nightly backups to another monster running fedora linux.

damn, tempting
P67 Z68 are capable to run 32GB (with Win 64bit)
Running 16GB now
As I mentioned in the other RAM thrd, saw article that RAM is coming down again - PC sales flat

Edit:
Also found this in the NE comments

Cons:
price sucks. I found that if you buy 2 of the 8gb pack (2x4) you can save about $100. They are exactly the same but for some reason its much cheaper if you dont buy the 16gb pack. pretty lame since it should get cheaper when you buy a larger quantity.
Manufacturer Response:.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear the price concerns you. Rest assure that it is accurate and justified. 8GB kits are only tested and guaranteed as 8GB. If you purchase two seperate kits, they may not work together. With dual channel and triple channel motherboards, the memory must be match tested to insure full compatibility. If this was not required, we would just sell individual modules and have you purchase as many as you need. In addition, perfectly matching kits are much more rare, and that is reflected in the pricing. There are plenty 4GB kits, but as you go higher in capacity such as our Trident series, you will notice they are commonly out of stock.

Thank you

Ah, what the heck. I pulled the trigger on 16GB @ $100. I remember around late 2008/early 2009 when DDR2 prices were so cheap, 4x2GB was around $100. By the end of 2009, that same kit skyrocketed to around $200, and I could only buy 2x2GB for $100. I kicked myself for not stocking up when DDR2 prices were down. Har, not this time with DDR3!
