I was asking myself the same question. The overclockability of these cards at this price point sold it for me. This will be a current card for some time to come. The new X1600s X1800s wont be THAT much better than this, but cost a ton more

Gotcha...

Hi, I'm new to this forum and wanted to ask a few questions about that X800GTO2.

Would it be better to purchase that X800GTO2 or save up and buy an 7800GT when it goes on sale for 300 or so?

Just a suggestion, thanks.

You want to play any modern games?

I ask because COD2 RAPES my 7800gt @ 1280x1024. 1600x1200 is almost unplayable (25-35, dipped as low as 12). Frankly if you're buying a card you want to keep and use with a big monitor (such as 2005fpw/2405fpw)... you've got to get top end. If you dont mind 1024x768 in the latest games, then a $200 card should be plenty for you. To be honest. I wouldn't even consider buying a 2405fpw right now unless I was going Dual 7800gtx. I doubt anything else can drive it's default resolution playably in the latest games.

To Lithan:

Thanks for the quick response. I normally play CSS, and hoping to play new games that are coming out, such as Quake 4 and FEAR. Currently I have the 6600GT on a 2005FPW monitor. The 6600GT isn't giving enough power (I purchased the 6600GT when it FIRST came out).

I normally run all my games on 1024 due to the mouse feeling that I'm used to. I would like to run my games on maybe 1280 for sharper images. I mean if the 7800GT is a huge difference compare to the X800GTO2, I wouldn't mind to wait.

I just like to see people's feedback on this GTO2 card.

Thanks again.

Same question. My main goal is playablity of games (Bf2 mainly), w/ biggest bang for buck. I can't make up my mind here and any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Purchased the Evga 7800 GT combo w/ sli mobo @ $399 - $40 rebate- $100 sale of mobo. Net $260 for the 7800 GT

Do I sell the GT for $350-360 & get this?

Btw, I havent tainted myself w/ the performance of the 7800 yet as I just got the A8N-SLI board & I will be upgrading from a 9500 pro, so either will be an impressive leap.

Thanks OP!

I would keep the GT. Given how little you have invested, you're looking at great performance/cost. Besides, I wonder if you could get $350-360 for yours now that it's pretty easy to get a new one for that much or less.

Edit: The GTO2 is now up to $304 (shipped) at Newegg. :Q (They've sold about 100 in the last 24 hrs. and have few left.)

HOLY CRAP! 33% price increase? Damn you can get an almost new 7800gt for just a little more than that in certain peoples for sale/trade threads here! (cough cough)

Really depends on the game. Im seeing them about equal in HL2. Most else, at the settings I play at 1280x1024or1600x1200/High everything, theres about 5-20% advantage for the 7800GT depending on the game. That's like 5-15fps.

Is it worth $150? Gotta be honest with you. If I had your monitor? I'd be buying a 7800gtx to run it's default res in everything that supported it. But between a 7800gt and the x800gto2? Well if theres more than $100 difference, get the gto2. Less then that, get the 7800gt imho.

Actually it's a 50% increase. :Q I would definitely take that "certain person's" 7800GT instead.

Newegg up to 300 now. Sure was a jump in the price from the date of this post.

What about AllStarShop? Too bad they are 4 hours away. I would save shipping.

Since I spent less than I planned on a monitor, I may be able to upgrade to pci-e from my 9600xt. I expect my 24" widescreen CRT to be here next week.

To Lithan:

Thanks for the advice. That helped a lot.

About Newegg, them assholes had to raise the prices. They insane or something... who the hell will want to buy it for 300 when you can just get a 7800GT for a little more.

Please, can anyone help with my problem?

I have a Dell 9100, no floppy and no ps/2 keyboard port...

I've made a boot CD with my other computer, which has both a floppy and ps/2 keyboard port. I try to boot my 9100 with it but my USB keyboard does not work and I'm not sure why. Is it because I DID NOT create the boot CD with the 9100? I've tried plugging the USB keyboard into each of my USB ports but nothing works.

I would be willing to install a floppy in the 9100 if I was sure that would work. Does anybody know about this sort of thing and could offer advice?

If nothing else, is there any way for me to flash my GTO2 within WinXP that would be safe?

Thank you for any help,
George -bub
