Not bad, not quite below the $0.50/GB mark, but the no rebates is a definate plus.
If this were a WD, I'd be all over it, to make a RAID with my other 160GB WD. The fact that I had a 60GB Maxtor go out on me last year in ~6mo/s of use, makes me very leery of using them ever again. Especially since they outsourced most of their production lines to China, as I understand it.
Is there any way to make this cheaper with a coupon code or something, maybe it could crack the $0.50/GB barrier then?

Tried coupon codes at Office Depot, but they wont allow it stating that items may be excluded.

Edit: Interesting. I went looking for some reviews, and the first few links that I found on Google, that included the model # of that drive as a keyword, on shopping sites, have some user reviews that mention total drive failure in 6 months. Two 60GB models, and one 120GB model mentioned. Counting the 60GB that failed on me, and a slightly different 60GB model that failed on my friend, that paints an interesting but disappointing picture.
Are the 160GB models significantly different than the 60GB/120GB models? I would assume that the 60GB/120GB use 60GB platters. Do the 160GB models use two 80GB platters, or three partially-defective 60GB or 63GB platters? Does anyone know?
Do any of these 160GB retail packages include controller cards still? That could make the deal worth it.

yup, when my maxtor died, the replacement drive that they sent me died in 3 months!!!!
I don't quite understand why you'd buy a hard drive when you really don't need one. They are just going to get cheaper and faster, what's the rush? This is a good deal but really nothing outrageous, no reason to make a knee-jerk decision.Originally posted by: Brian48
Wow. I am incredibly tempted to get this. In fact, I've filled out all the necessary information and my mouse is hovering over the Submit button as I write this. The problem is, I REALLY don't need another HDD at the moment. What to do, what to do
