I think I saw a piece of paper posted by the door at the Irvine/Tustin Micro Center about this. It said it was a mistake and that it was actually a CD burner.

No need to, since after 30 days of backorder they'll simply cancel it on me anyways, plus I haven't been charged yet. I'm betting they're just going to let all of the "backorder" orders ride out the 30 days then cancel them, rather than shipping anything out.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. I had a spare DVD drive sitting around, so I just went and ordered an external USB enclosure off Newegg for about the same price anyways.

Just talked to Micro Center today (2/27/06) and they said Micro Center will ship the Mad Dog external DVD R/W unit instead of the Samsung. The Mad Dog drives are being shipped to Micro Center now. You might want to call the Micro Center service center and check on the status of your order.

Well, if you look at the origional post date, this is a month old. And if you read the first page you would have seen that the deal was removed in the first day. And still then if you had read the second page you would have seen that the store posted notice that it was a mistake in the advertisement and retracted the deal, but that they were working on trying to honor the people who had placed an order before they removed it from their site by switching the item to a Mad Dog external DVD R/W, which is at least still a good deal, and better then just cancelling orders and saying "tough luck"....

When I got home from work there was a message on my voicemail explaining the situation and that I needed to call them to approve the MadDog substitution.
When I called them and they said the MadDog drives would be in within 2 weeks.

Even though they have no product yet, Thumbs-up to them for working to make this right.

If you recieve a cancel notice you can still call and get the Mad Dog drive. They only cancled the Samsung drive because they will not ship that one. You will get a new order number for the Mad Dog drive. Just be nice to the CS rep....
