Aren't most 16X dvd roms around 30$ or sometimes FAR (as in the Mad Dog one in Omax last week)??? I guess that would answer your first question. Dunno about the second one. My guess is try google.

I had a BTC 8x dvd and it wouldn't read a lot of burned cd's....I suggest spending a few mo' $$$ and getting anything but a BTC

No doubt! I've had two out of three BTC drives of different models start acting weird on me both within 1 year. I no longer buy BTC drives or use them in builds anymore. BTC CD-Rs sucked too but I haven't seen any of those in a long time.

It's almost pointless to pay $30+shipping for a BTC when you can get a Pioneer for $36 shipped.
