Costco will have this monitor/TV on sale for $549.99 - $50 MIR = $499.99 + tax/shipping ($37.22/$14.68 for me).
This will only be available online (no B&M) from July 21-27.
I have never even heard of this name brand, but hey, it's Costco and they will take anything back if you don't like it or it breaks.

1280x768 is kind of a weird resolution. Usually it's 1024x768 or 1280x1024, maybe it's because it does TV too?

1024x768 doesn't look very good on a 17", the pixels are too big for my taste, but 1280x1024 would be OK.

Nevermind, I should have checked the link, it's 16:9 format, so it really is 1280x768. Great for a college dorm combo, so-so as a monitor.

The 170MP is a bona fide 50ms response screen.

The 171MP, on the other hand, is an updated model that I think does 25ms.. neither one has component inputs for a DVD player like this Pacco.

i have a 16:9 monitor. its pretty nice you get used to it. basically its like 1024x768, but you get 30% more room on one side, for random applets and tool bars. i put AIM over there. s o a normally formatted 1024x768 webpage will still fit in the other part.

A couple things, the company is really called PACCO, not IX from what I can tell. IX seems to be some sort of name for their new line of monitors or something???
Anyway, their site mentions a model # PA1721TW which seems to be the predecessor of this monitor.

From what I can figure out, this monitor is really based on a Samsung screen and made by a taiwanese company that seems to also make other rather random things. My guess is that it's a Samsung screen because I found some pdf file about the introduction of their company that said their screens were from a BIG korean LCD manufacturer. Seeing as how there really is only one Korean tech giant that has good LCD capabilities(particularly a 16ms response LCD) my guess here is Samsung.
This appears to be a rather new model, since it's definitely not the one in their intro pdf(thankfully I think since this one looks MUCH nicer and I doubt the original one was 16ms)
Anyway here's a pdf for(the predecessor to) the monitor on sale at Costco:
http://61.30.192.10/paccogroup/files/products/1840.0744_PA1721TW-SB.pdf

And their website is logically: http://61.30.192.10/paccogroup/

Dunno why they don't have a domain name.

Anyway the screen is probably good since it's obviously new(16ms and all) so I'm almost sure it *is* Samsung made. Unfortunately there isn't DVI which I think sucks =(

Here's a rather humorous quote from their website hehe:

"Ta Ta Group was established in 1979 by the Founder, Tachin Wang. Starting with car jacks, air compressor, floor jacks and etc., Ta Ta has been expanding itself to different fields to fit Electronic & Construction market flows. More than twenty subsidiary companies been set up for specific market, including Pacco Group Inc., Ta Ta Technology Co., Ltd., Compucase Enterprise Co., Ltd., and Ta Shen Construction and etc. "

ehehehehe

I saw one of these last weekend at Compusa. At least I think it was the same. Very nice--similar to the Sony

Believe Compusa's price was $649

You may want to consider the Albatron at Newegg for $459 with tuner and dvi but without the hassel of rebates.

Link

Read some good reviews

without a dvi i wonder if this would make a good monitor for my needs. i basically surf and do schoolwork and do no gaming whatsoever...the only gaming that goes on is my girlfriend playing her sims.

any comments would be appreciated.

thanks

Did a little research on this guy since I was thinking about upgrading my Samsung 150MP to a 17". Looked at the Sceptre X7sv Naga but it had a lousy 1 year warranty and I could only find these at Dell.com or Amazon so I couldn't get a look see at the quality. Looked at the Viewsonic N1700W, but it was too expensive. Then I came to the Sony almost bought it but for one major problem, no TV tuner built in. It's supposed to be optional but can't find one anywhere so you can't compare it with the others. Oh well, I think I'll have to settle for a 170MP for under $500 AR from OD or maybe I should try this Pacco monitor, but sheez that shipping just kills.

Great price compared to this Tatung at Best Buy, which seems to have similar features. Dunno if the Costco monitor has an internal scaler for HDTV.

One thing to remember about the widescreen 17" is that its horizontal dimension will be more like a 19" LCD having a 4:3 ratio. The speakers seem to be larger than most monitors - hope that means decent sound (a very real drawback to most LCD monitors' speakers).

Here's another wide-screen LCD monitor/TV at eCost: Sceptre

DVI, VGA, component, composite, S-video, antenna inputs

25ms response, 160 degree viewing angles, 400 nit, 500:1 contrast

$489.95 after $50 rebate. Free shipping, no tax for most.

Personally, I'm holding out for one with a HDTV tuner built-in.
