I just got a AMD XP 1700 throughbred Rev B from Googlegear that is OC ing like crazy. With a AX-7 I'm at a 150 bus speed and multiplier is at 11 and 37 C under load. Sure it will go much higher. I'm worried about the rest of the system. The memory is Cruial 2100 and that seems ok, but the cd-rw and the hard drive can't take these high bus speeds can they? My video card is a AIW 7500 and I'd hate to fry that too. The board is an Epox 8KHA+. Is there a way to handle this or is another mother board better? I could try and unlock the chip and bring the Front Bus Speed back down, but I haven't had much luck doing that. Stays unlocked for a while and then locks again. This is going to be a great comp so I don't want to screw it up. Also, the 8KHA+ does recognize what kind of processor this is. Maybe I need to get the latest bios upgrade? Thanks

I have a T-Bred A running at 1700... 136x12.5... I'm using PC2100 RAM from Best Buy, so I think that's limiting me. I'm also at 1.6 vcore. I use to run it at 165x10.5, but it wasn't stable. It would crash in games and such.

to run higher fsb's you will need to use your dividers in order to set your frequencies to 33/66 (pci/agp).. hopefully you have those on your board...

UPdate: This is great! I got 155x12.5=1936, XP2400, 37C idle, 512 PC2100 Micron, Sandra says pci bus 39 and AGP bus 78. Default voltage. Never had to unlock it. No case fan, but side of case is open. Wouldn't do 166. Radeon 7500. Maxtor LBA 100. Had to update bios to recognize throughbred.

Are these bus speeds too high? I disconnected the CD-RW to be sure not to fry that.

Your 8KHA+ lacks a 1/5 divider. As your bus frequency goes over 133mhz, all your devices begin running out of spec. This probably will not lead to permanent damage, but it will lead to corruption - video interference, and damage to your hard drive data. With that said, in my experience, the KT266A IDE controller works fine up to 160mhz FSB.

The Thoroughbreds are factory unlocked - I would run the chip at 12.5x133, and increase the FSB from there, to be safe.

Edit: Doh - just read your last message more closely.

there is much more possible than 1600 MHz... 2000 should be possible at least... esp. if you have a JIUHB.

Princeman,
If your memory is PC2100 it probably wont run at 166 so you may need to choose the memory settings to run at say, 80% of FSB. PC2100 = 133MHz. You might also have to bring up your cas and ras timings or put them on optimal. Or for that matter you can see what the resulting memory speed is if you choose memory setting by SPD. (assuming that your mobo has similar settings)
