180gig WD SE drive "warm"?

My first post on hot deals so please take it easy on me!! (haha, you guys r brutal sometimes!!) Well today I went to Frys to buy a 120gig SE they had it for 199-30rebate=169 but saw the 180 gig for 329-100rebate=229 so I went to the Frys website and downloaded and printed the rebate then took the rebate to Cicuit City and they price matched the 229 price. This is warm because you get the 180 gig without having to wait for the rebate and the 180 gig comes with a ATA card for free.

Well, starting today - Sunday 11/24/2002, Circuit City is offering a $100 rebate on this drive. If you can get them to price match the drive down to $229, then the rebate will take it down to $129. Sweet!!

Also, if you don't have a Fry's Electronics in your city, then there is another option if you have a Micro-Center. The latest Micro-Center flyer (dated so the sale ends on 12/2/2002) - features the 180 GB Western Digital SE drive for $269 ($369.00 - $100.00 price discount.) You could take the circular to Circuit City and get them to match the drive price. You could then send the rebate form in for a 'net' price of $169 for the drive. Not quite as good as the Fry's/rebate version of the price match, but still a good deal on a very large drive.

You can go back with your receipt and get a new one issued so you will qualify for the rebate. Before making my reply early this morning, I checked the CC Web site to see if the rebate had been posted for this item, but it hadn't. It's worth a try - - and well worth getting another $100.00 back off the deal.

The previous rebates for Circuit City hard drive deals were processed through the Young America, Minnesota mailing address. From what I recall, this rebate processing center isn't quite as quick as a rebate from Staples, but they're not crooks like some of the other processing centers that take many, many months to pay you back.

The deal with having Circuit City price match the Micro-Center flyer came up in another hard drive deal discussion thread a few days back. I don't recall the name of the user that posted it - but, I feel that individual deserves the credit if people score on that particular angle of this deal by using the M-C pricematch.

Only bummer is that I think the rebate limits you to only one drive per address/name/household. Link to rebate on outpost.com

I think this is a better deal then Circuit City since you get the controller card as well.

Edit: Actually, I just called CC and they have the controller card in their model as well. So they are the same drive. When I went to their website, there was no mention of the controller card being included in with the drive. Sorry......

One small correction for your post: The drive is a 180 GB and not a 160 GB drive as you listed. It might be quite hard to get Circuit City to price match the Fry's Web site if yo don't have a Fry's in your community. The Micro-Center may not be located in every community, either - but may be in some locations where a Fry's is not present. Here's a link to the 180 GB at the Micro-Center for $269 - Micro-Center 180 GB WD Drive - Plus, if you're on Micro-Center's mailing list, you should be receiving the flyers in the mail. If you don't receiver the flyers, you could stop by your local Micro-Center and pick up a circular.

Plus, don't forget about the Circuit City 110% price guarantee. Depending on where they deduct the extra 10% off the price, you could save an additional nice chunk of change.
