It's ultra base config but I bought one for the wife with 4gb of ssd and it's fantastic. This is less than I paid at the outlet.

That's an awesome price for an awesome machine. I'm using Ubuntu on mine and it's rock solid and awesome. I replaced the ssd with a 32gb however and upgraded the ram to 2gb.

I got the Runcore version off ebay. They're kind of pricey at 120-130. But the good thing is that the runcore's read/write speeds are better than the default ssd that Dell ships out.
I also have a small mypassport hard drive that I carry around. If I need to save something big, it goes into the mypassport.

Interestingly enough, the Mini 9 is the most OS X compatible. http://gadgets.boingboing.net/...-netbook-compatib.html

I'm not a dell employee and I can see the 186 price. When it asks for you ID just choose one of the options on the dropdown menu, small business, student, etc. then close and click on the link again and the 186 price will show up.

And it has nothing to do with being a dell employee in general. It is for employees of other companies that have EPP set up with Dell. (i.e my company buys a lot of dell computers for our offices, so we also have a employee personal purchase program negotiated with Dell to get better prices)

I have the stock 8GB and it boots very quickly and is generally snappy with XP Home. In everyday use are you finding the Runcore quicker, or is it just in benchmarks of read/write?

I just dropped BB to try one and they screwed that puppy up. It was dog slow. I wanted to compare the sound between it, the HP mini, and the 1000H using a DVD rip and VLC portable. The Dell took about three minutes to load it up. The other two were fairly snappy. I don't know what they did to it but it was slow as all get out. Unless it had an increbly slow SSD it must be a software screwup some idiot did to it being the hardware is the same on all of them except the hard drive. I will say this, the keyboard is horrible. Small, and just a pain to use. The Asus was decent and the HP very good. The screen was nice though.

Gotta get a faster SSD card in there.

List of Fast SSD's for Dell Mini 9

At the bottom are fast SSDs for the Mini 9. They are all out of stock presently, but with the wait time on the Dell orders, I'd hope ordering now would make it so the drive shows up before the netbook.

You can also upgrade the RAM from 512 to 2GB at newegg for about 22 shipped (much much cheaper than what Dell charges)

I just ordered a 16 GB RunCore. Watching videos of the thing flying with one inside made it a 'must have' for me.

I dunno. It just seems faster. I reinstalled the Ubuntu netbook OS which is pretty awesome and it seems zippy.

Every time I go, all I see is ~230 for the mini in my cart. Is there a coupon that I missed out on?

using mine right now. It has the STEC 8gb from dell. works fine for me, although is noticably slow when unraring & handling .cab files.

got it for $227
