The IBM P96 FR Trinitron Monitor is $189.97 at Micro Warehouse (www.microwarehouse.com). Shipping is around $40 for it. The next closest price for this monitor was $249. This looks like a good deal. CNET has it as one of its Top 5 19" Monitors.

This is Cnet's Review-

This is a CRT monitor with a SOny Trinitron tube. It is a little bulky, but seems like a good deal for the price.

Anyone have this? Is it good?

This is really a great price, good find.

However, here's my personal experience with IBM monitors. I purchased a 21" (P260) and a 19" (P96). These were both retail boxes purchased at separate times. The 21" went bad after 2 weeks. The 19" went bad after about 5 months. I got them replaced under warranty. IBM's warranty is for 3 years I believe. IBM's replacement policy is: 30 days after purchase, warranty will be handled by the retailer you purchased from. After 30 days, IBM will handle the warrrany, and shipping is paid both ways by IBM. However, IBM will replace it with a refurbished unit.

So an unfortunate scenario might be: It's brand new in the box, you don't set it up immediately because you don't have all your components yet, but was such a great price that you had to buy it now. 35 days go by and you finally got all the components and assemble your new computer, you finally break it out of the box, there's a problem with it immediately. To you, it's brand spanking new. To IBM, you will receive a refurbished unit.

My personal experience has led me to shy away from any IBM product. The fiasco with IBM's 75GXP 45 GB hard drives didn't help my outlook. I have two of those:frown: But thankfully, they haven't died yet after a year of use. I bought IBM because I thought it stood for quality, boy have I been disappointed.

Yes this is a perfectly flat screen, FD stands for flat display. I would pick the IBM monitor over the samsung 955df for two reasons. First if you go to your local computer store and compare the samsung 955df next to a trinitron monitor you'll see that the trinitron has a much richer and sharp picture. Secondly the samsung 955df has a maxium refresh rate of only 68hz at 1600x1200 the IBM can do a comfortable 85hz at 1600x1200. And thirdly this is a great deal for a 19" flatscreen trinitron.

Yup, price is now $249

Update: I called and spoke with a CSR earlier. Pricing error. Anyone manage to get in on this deal or did you get "whoops" letters?

Is this deal still alive? What am I missing here? 249$ for a true sony trinitron seems like an awsome deal to me, compared to retail or anything on pricewatch.... is this aperture grill?

I'll 2nd that, ive had my P260 for two years & its the best darn monitor ive ever owned.

I also have a 19" NEC Multisync FE950+ that Im very pleased with.

Both are aperature grille monitors and the image & color quality on both are outstanding.
Id buy either one of these monitors again without giving it a 2nd thought.
