19" monitor comparison

Im looking for a good 19" monitor for college. Here are some of the ones i was thinking of: Iiyama visionmaster i90, Sony G400, NEC FE950+, Viewsonic PF790, Hitachi CMU771, CTX PF950F. The iiyama, sony and Hitachi are about 100 bucks more expensive. All monitors are flat screen. I would like a great monitor but dont want to pay that much extra money if its not that much better. Any opinions on these?

What are you using it for? besides school obviously. Do an advanced search for monitor's, there are many post's on just this subject. Are you determined to have a flat screen? if so what are you basing that decision on? I have seen flat and slightly curved, and i was not overly impressed with the flat hype. Sure they look great but so did some of the Slightly curved screen's. Check out pcworld.com. they have good review's on monitor's. also what are your size restriction's? if your in a dorm then consider the Viewsonic GS790. it has a very small footprint and is #3 on pcworld.

How about the Samsung 19" SyncMaster 955DF. I am going to school and I use it for programming, playing, games, graphics and I am running it at 1600x1200x32 (with ATI RADEON 32MB DDR LE) and its great!
I live in Canada, and at the time I got (a year ago), I paid $510 cdn plus tax. It's also a Flat monitor. Very nice.

Ill be using it for graphics, games and programming mainly. I like the way the flat screen looks compared with the slightly curved. I would like the dimensions to be under 18.5" in HWD.

In that case check out the KDS AV-195TF. It is a trinitron apeture grille monitor. I personally have seen it and it is sharp. It is cheaper than the Sony G400. The G400 is the one to get though if you can afford it. I assure you, if you go with the KDS you will not be dissapointed. They also have a good 3 year warranty, many say it's the best bang for the buck.
Right now if you do your homework you can get the Sony G400 for about $420.00 shipped. The KDS can be had for about $100.00 less.

What about the NEC FE950+ it comes in black which is cool plus its specs look pretty good.

Some people swear by the Sony's that they are the best. But when I first got my little 15", I had to send it back three times to get fixed within the first month. Yes, I probably just got a dud, but there are other good brands too. I want and need a good 19" with high refresh because I'm getting into CAD and CG animation. I've been looking at the Sony G400, NEC FP955, and a couple Viewsonics. I'm leaning towards NEC.
