For the last year I've seen stories on various tech blogs about upcoming 19" notebooks. But still haven't found any in the wild. Not even Alien.
Anyone seen any majors selling a 19" yet?

A 19-in notebook is basically a portable desktop - just about useless for primary notebook use (travel!) But - apparently Samsung released one a couple of years ago.

19

And several other OEMs have been in the mix.

I once had a 17-in Gateway, but soon learned it was not very good for travel. Couldn't even open it fully on an airline seat tray.

Samsung has made one for several years now...the M70 (Corkyg, the article you linked was from 2005)

http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/h...01743,39095326p,00.htm

Dell has made a 20" with the XPS M2010, and HP also has one in the form of the PavilionHDX.

I personally wouldn't want to lug one around myself, though...even a 17" Macbook pro is much too big and heavy to lug around every day. The only real uses I see for such a big notebook are as desktop replacement and occasionally carrying to LAN parties or such.

iirc the keyboard is removable and uses bluetooth. i have no idea why someone would really want one of those. maybe a super hardcore lan gamer or something....but hell, anything bigger than a 14" is too big to carry regularly as far as im concerned

Yeah, the Samsung story is from 2005. And many of those Google articles are from 2006... pretty much the same articles I mentioned reading over the last year or so. I do like the looks of the HP HDX, but I'm a bit disappointed that they wouldn't offer sli video as an option with display that size. Also my HP Pavillion zd7000 gets monster hot when gaming... even with various coolers/stands under it. If I run EQ2 & Vent at the same time, EQ2 gets jittery at lowest settings... and it blows like a hair drier. So I'm not sure I wanna go the way of another HP.

I realize it's kinda large, but my needs don't require it to be carried around often. I just want the option when I go to visit the inlaws. It use would be mostly gaming. Dunno, might hafta opt for the Alienware. I know it's a bit over-priced (does anyone order it with 4 gigs for $350, when you can add the mem yourself from Newegg for maybe $100?) but they have strong feedback/following and the case design looks a little more airflow friendly.

If you're looking for gaming performance then 17" offers more models at better prices. Gateway's FX models pack 8800GTS M graphics and are capable of playing just about any game you want (except Crysis with high settings and high resolution). SLI in laptops is overrated in my opinion, but if you want SLI manufacturers like Sager and Dell do offer it.

My friend had the 20" dell notebook. Holy crap that thing was huge and weighed a ton. My bro has the HP dv9500t and I think its too big (but the screen is beautiful compared to the awful screen on my dv6500t.)

Still, I'm probably looking for a 13" notebook next time around.
