Thanks for the info rochlin. I still have yet to order my 900NF because I haven't heard from Onvia about cancelling my 900IFT order so I will not order until I am sure the 900IFT is cancelled. Taking a bit long, I emailed them on Wednesday! If I don't get a reply soon I'll have to call or email again.

Anyway, the 955DF for $257 is a good deal but the refresh rates aren't so great. If you're looking for a Shadow Mask monitor, the 900IFT would be one of the best but if you simply can't spend the money, the 955DF is fine. I guess all of you notice that. Like wje said, it may be a good monitor for some but not for others.

Oh yes, rochlin, do you know the actual ETA date for the 900NF from Onvia?

eagle__2,
Have you tried going to "Order Tracking"? It should say "cancelled". Like I said, you could go to http://www.cmpexpress.com after business hours and get an idea how far each monitor is backordered. I did yesterday and, if I remember correctly, both seemed to be very close to being in stock (smaller negative numbers than before) if not already. Buy.com shows both as being in-stock. Onvia.com shows both as being out-of-stock. They both use Ingram Micro, so Onvia could be just slow in updating their system.

hkchan: Yeah I did. The current order isn't cancelled yet (at least it doesn't say so). I had another order but cancelled that because I wasn't signed up with Pointclick BEFORE ordering so even Pointclick recommended cancelling then reordering. Yeah I did check out that site. Yesterday it was like -25 total but I haven't checked today. Will go do that now...

No, cmpexpress' "realtime" inventory system doesn't work during business hours. Months ago it worked during business hours but not after. It's now the other way around.

This is kind of peculiar, but I got my 900NF today (Friday) from Onvia, 1 day after ordering it (and after they told me it was out of stock too). I'm in California, and I think someone was told their was a cache of Samsungs at the California warehouse. I guess that was true...

Impressions: Extremely sharp (way better than my old sony 17sf) - pretty much comprable to the Viewsonic PS790. The color and brightness are as good as I've seen.

There is some mild (uncorrectable) distortion near the top and bottom of the screen. It bows towards the center slightly.

I ran Nokia's monitor tests on it, and there is some uncorrectable Moire at higher (1200x1024 and 1600x1200) resolutions (the Moire correction settings don't remove it entirely), but nothing I could notice outside of the test. Convergence was way off at most resolutions as delivered, but that was pretty much 100% correctable
with the convergence adjustment. It's got a pretty potent "new monitor" (aka hot plastic) smell. Overall the best monitor I've used.
(I'm running it under a regular vanilla TNT vid card, which doesn't have the best ramdac in the world. It would probably be even better with a Matrox or a newer Nvidia).

Yes. Ingram Micro still has (probably not realtime though) 3 units in CA, 6 in TN, 16 in IL and 8 in PA.

If you can, load up Internet Explorer and observe the browser where the horizontal lines seperate the address bar run across the screen. How much would you say it bows in the center? 2mm?

On both 900NF monitors that I received, I measured a bow of nearly 2mm. Friends of mine who own the same monitor have the same problem. It appears to be more noticable toward the upper left edge of the browser - a couple of inches across I would guess.

I know others have witnessed this. I wonder if it's a bad batch of 900NF's? Anyway, I got a 900IFT arriving shortly. I'm going to put it through the tests and see how it's geometry is. I might just go back to my 17" until they work the bugs out of this Flat Screen technology. I guess I'm just reeeeeeealy picky.

I don't really see any dramatic bowing like 2mm.
I'm looking at the IE address bar like you suggested (and also the grid in Nokia's monitor test. The address bar looks straight so far as I can see with a ruler.
Actually the bowing is more pronounced at the bottom (Windows toolbar turf on my set up). There might be 1mm there.

I should note, I'm running at 1200x1024x85hz.
At that ratio, I have almost 1/2" of blackspace on the right/left of the screen, and very little at the top and bottom.

One thing that did bother me though. The convergence was all screwed up when I turned the monitor on this morning. I readjusted it, but it might just be a warmup thing.
Or (does anyone know) is it OK to unplug these monitors, or will they lose their memory after a few hours - like my TV. (I've got it connected to a surge supressor so I don't power it down with the power button).

Hey Dudes

Even though I posted about the DF, I decided to go with the 900NF, because of the Aperature Grill tube. The colors they put out are much deeper in my opinion. I took advice from all the posts I could find in hot deals and general hardware.. There are hundreds of posts about all these monitors, and most people have reported that they are very happy with the NF. I also looked at an NEC monitor in my office that someone has, and the picture quality on it is pretty awesome, and it also uses a Mitsu AG tube.
When I ordered it, Onvia said in-stock, and Buy.com did not say out of stock either. I ordered it Friday afternoon.

FYI, I stopped at a Best Buy and checked out a few monitors.
They had a 753DF, which is like the 755 or 955DF, but with sadder resolutions. It looked pretty good. The glass on the outside had a nice glare-reduced tint on it. They also had KDS and ViewSonic AG monitors, which were probably also not upper-line monitors like we are looking for. They both looked decent. It was very hard to tell, since they weren't next to eachother. But while actually looking at the KDS AG, Viewsonic AG, and Samsung (Shadow mask), they all looked good and pretty similar, even though the Viewsonic and KDS were 19" and the Samsung was 17". They all looked pretty good and had good color, even for being the lower models. They didn't have any Sony or Mitsu monitors, which I really wanted to look at also.

Friday afternoon? That means you didn't link through PointClick but still submitted a reimbursement request for the 10%?

Yeah, you can get reimbursed from the reimbursement list since it's on there, as of now, but they are changing their policy on August 1st to where it has to be on the list at the time you place the order. (Says a rep)

i got one of these 955df from onvia. it was good and dandy, all of a sudden, one morning, i was cleaning the screen with a soft cloth, the screen just went really bright, and then lines appears and it goes off. i had to turn it off and then on again to get it to work, but only for split seconds, then the same problem reoccurs. it is not doing that anymore but now once in a while the screen will get bright and back to normal again. i am thinking about calling onvia and have them replace the monitor since it is not even a week old. anyone have any input. i tried doing the reset to default settings, and the degausse. nothing seems to help.

how exactly do I buy somethign thru pointclick and get my money when onvia isn't linked from pointclick anymore?

I really wanna buy their 21" trinitron for 699 - 25 - 10%; but i won't buy it if I cannot get the pointclick deal to go through.

thanks in advance...

P.S. does anyone see any good reason whatsoever to not buy this monitor: KDS AV-21TF 21"/20.OV .24mm 1600x1200 85HZ FD TRINITRON - http://www.onvia.com/usa/products/index.cfm?Task=ViewProduct&SearchText=21%2520trinitron&IdCatalog=2474962

Other than cost ofcourse; I am expecting it to be razor sharp and nearly distortion free even at 1600 and up. am I expecting too much?

According to the docs 2048 is even supported at up to 81khz.

KDS isn't exactly known for its quality. Still, I'd personally take a decent 21" over a superb 19" - a 21" in the $600 range is darn good.

Pshlortz... you buy it, then enter pointclick and go to "get reimbursed." You select onvia from the merchant list and put in the order info. There are a few more things to do, just follow their instructions.

I have the 955DF monitor. I did what you suggested -- brought up IE and using a clear draftsman's straightedge measured the curvature of the line at the bottom edge of the tool bar. It is less than 1/2mm from edge to edge of the screen. In other words if I position the straightedge so that it is tangent to the line at the center of the screen, the ends of the line will each be between 1/4 and 1/2 mm above the straight edge. That is pretty darn good in my book.

I wasn't sure if models other than the 900NF had this bowing problem. If your bow is .5 to 1mm, that's pretty good.

i managed to pull off the 21" flat trinitron tubed kvs for 604$ after 25$ and 10% pointclick.

and it came in only one day! nice living next to pennsylvania for once

Anyone; i know that 600$ is a lot for us money mongers; but it really is a HOT DEAL to get a screen so big you can like run several webpages at once and watch tv in the corner

and if you're really bored here's a screengrab of what a 21" trini and a 15" nec can do
