So what's the consensus on this LCD? A 19" for $700 sounds like a decent deal, especially considering the very low response time, great contrast and decent brightness... am I missing something?

I think the Sceptre models are made by Planar. If you closely enough at the cases, you can clearly see that the monitors definately look like the Planar models. $699 brings the price down to a level quite similar to the Dell purchases a few weeks back (well, $659 was the price at the time) - but, this is still quite a good deal.

[Edit]: Justdeals.com is the vendor that I was trying to think of earlier. Actually, their price is a bit higher - $719 + $11.00 shipping for a generic Planar / Sceptre black & silver monitor. Their model is the generic one - no markings. Also, if you want the one with the Sceptre markings, the price jumps to $798 + $11.00 shipping. The Sam's Club price is a very good price. Plus, I'm assuming that if you experience any problems with it, you could just return to your local Sam's Club - and not have any restocking fees like quite a few other vendors would hit you with. Thanks for posting this deal.

True. However, with Sam's Club, you can get a 1-year extended warranty on this monitor for $19.99. I'm not sure how much it is for a warranty of longer term, though.

As an additional note, yesterday Dell had the Planar PL191M-BK monitor for $806 (a savings of $140+ dollars) under the home section. Granted, this isn't a 'hot' deal but a rather 'warm' deal. However, the PL191M is a real sleek monitor - but, I paid $791 for mine.
