I'd be tempted, but this is 19" widescreen. I already have a 19" 4:3 CRT and I'd hate to lose the verticle space for some more horizontal.... argh, life is hard.

The 4x3 19" Hanns is going for $109 after MIR at PC Connection (plus free shiping for $250 invoice), and I bought an 8 port SMC 10/100 switch to get there ($25)

This was just too good to pass up and even though a widescreen might be nice I don't want to give up the vertical real estate either (not a game machine).

I went ahead and bought the widescreen one over the non-widescreen one about 2 weeks ago to replace my dying 19" CRT. Sofar so good and I was able to get rid of my second 17" CRT monitor that I only used for an IRC window thanks to the widescreen.

16:10 is a huge advantage in games, and it is easier on my eyes to stare at than a squareish CRT.

Check Office Depot first. They had this there for $220 before rebates, $200 after. Pretty awesome prices for a B&M store. Save less than $20 (shipping) and buy from newegg or go buy it right now and be able to return it for dead pixels.

I bought a Haans-G 191HW from OD store 7/24. Total: 238$(tax included)-60$(OD mir)-20$(BofA for OD) and got 10$ OD coupon.
This monitor is excellent. I still even keep screen protector.
Speakers aren't so good though.

I bought the JW199D fr0om NewEgg for $179.99 with free shipping. It has no dead or stuck pixels -- which is what most buyers have also reported. NewEgg's policy is to replace an LCD monitor only if there are more than eight dead or stuck pixels -- prominently displayed in each LCD monitor ad. That was enough to make me nervous, but apparently the Hannes LCD quality control is very good. The colors are vivid and true as best I can tell and the display is BRIGHT, even with the brightness adjusted down. Makes my CRT displays seem sort of grey when I switch machines. I think it would be an excellent monitor for gaming given the 5ms versus the more common 8ms response, but it is not acceptable for word processing. The characters have a fuzzy look like the background was bleeding into them . I have been experimenting with software designed to sharpen characters on LCD display -- like Clear Type -- but so far no real improvement.

Based on my experience, I would say don't buy this monitor if you are primarily going to use it for word processing, but jump on it if you want vivid colors and a bright display for gaming. Oh, and the viewing angle is exceptional.

My wife uses this monitor for Photoshop, and I have not seen any blurring or fuzziness issues at all with the text.

Obviously, it is hard to photograph a monitor, but here is some text on the HannsG, and I think you can see that the text isn't blurry or messed up.

I also just bought this monitor for a build for a friend and I am very impressed. The base is pretty lame but who cares, put it on some books and enjoy the awesome lcd.

Price drop at Circuit City the monitor is $179.99. So if you want to get this monitor at a B&M. I just got back and got mine and it looks great.

From the looks of things, with the tax here in NC, it's the same as if you order it off of Newegg with their shipping and just pick it up at the store.

I just ordered it for pickup at CC and will report on it tomorrow, but as a side note, it's not the same monitor as offered on Newegg, it looks as though it's a newer model number as it's 199 and not 191 at CC.

Newegg has both the 191 and 199.

Which one ends up being cheaper just seems to depend on the day (both have been around $179 with free shipping).

I have ordered 2 of these now from Newegg. I liked the first one enough to buy a second and unloaded my 19 CRT. Both arrived with NO dead pixels at all and they do fine with the limited games that I play. I don't have any that make use of the wide screen res that these do but I haven't seen any ghosting at all. Both units shipped in the original mfr's box only but UPS is pretty good here so that was not a problem. The only knock I have is that you have to drill down in the menu to switch from analog to digital.
Edit: Both of mine are the 199 models.

Another review to help those on the fence.

I picked up the JW199D at Circuit City today for 179.99 (I like the 30 day no-questions-asked returns in case of dead pixels). I am upgrading from a 19" Samsung SyncMaster CRT.

What I liked:
The Hanns-G unit is great overall. It looked nice before any tweaking, NO dead pixels and has more than enough brightness and decent viewing angles. I popped in my Sin City DVD which looked terrific. I played Call of Duty 2, saw no ghosting or visual lags of any kind. What I did see was more peripheral! Text also looks incredibly sharp.

What I didn't like:
Looking at the monitor by itself, the colors look terrific. Next to the CRT however, I do notice that the CRT seems to reproudce colors better (but the Hanns-G does is only capable of 16.2 million vs 32). So if you plan on doing a lot of graphic design and image manipulation, this is not the best choice out there.

People says things like "it's great...for the money". In my personal opinion, I think this monitor rocks, period. I've been delaying the jump to LCD like a mofo, and decided to give this a shot. I'm glad I did, I can say with confidence that this is the best $180 I've spent in a while!

Recieved this monitor a few days ago. Bought it through Tigerdirect, because they have a "30 day satisfaction guaruntee" on it. So any dead pixels or anything and I could send it back for a refund. It shipped overnight, with just the basic shipping package. No dead pixels, nothing.. perfect. I play CS:S and WoW, haven't noticed any ghosting whatsoever. This is my first LCD and I love it. I was planning on buying a Viewsonic VX2025WM or a Samsung 204B, but this popped up and had great reviews so I went with it. For the price you absolutely can't beat it.

The few qualms I have about the monitor are: The way the monitor sits on it's stand is kind of flimsy, it will kind of rock when you touch it... but it's not like I'm ever touching it unless it's to turn it on or off. There seems to be some banding in WoW, but nothing that diminishes the game. As a casual gamer and just general frequent computer user... I definitely recommend this monitor.

new LCD user here, just got it from TigerDirect this afternoon ..
amazing monitor, I do have one "green" pixel when it boots up, but it isn't visible now ..
only complaint is the lack of tilt.

I dont know what people are saying about the lack of tilt? I got the JW199D and it tilts just fine. I got a different stand than the one pictured on newegg, its square and flat and pretty rigid. Maybe I got lucky
