Well, you conclusion about the X1900XTX being crap....well....you might have "jumped the gun" on that one.
I'm going to list things so try this (or ask yourself the question):
-Is the Windows install fresh?
-Are all the components in the rig fast enough to keep up with X1900XTX
-Do you have all the lastest drivers installed (chipset, video, etc.)
-Is the 6-pin PCIe Power connector plugged into video card?
-Did I miss anything
Anyway, I'm also going to suggest you try out these:
XTreme-G Warcat Drivers (and no, this one does not have a virus)
There's also a
patch for the above. You don't really need it though (at least I don't think so). But knock yourself out, and install it anyway.
The modified drivers can really help some issues. Just make sure that you uninstall the old ones THE RIGHT WAY:
-Uninstall from Device Manager
-Reboot into safe mode (F8)
-Run
Driver Cleaner Pro (using ATI settings, it's real easy)
-Reboot into regular Windows, install drivers
-Reboot, configure, and profit
Also, with a X1900XTX you should be able to use 4xAA, 16xHQAF with most games. Not to mention AAA (or whatever it's called on ATI cards). And you could also change setting to High Quality.
So, have fun with it and I'm sure you'll change your mind.
