Tried FEAR at 800*600 MED
noticeably better, significantly better
but there is still a great deal of stuttering and this isn't what I expect even from a 7900GT at that setting, is even a 6600GT that bad at that res?

Does the FEAR patch help a great deal?

i'm going to come right out and say this, just in case you didn't catch it the first 40 times it was posted:

the video card is not the problem.

The stuttering is cuased by the way the game streams data off the harddrive.

the x1900xtx is the one of the best single gpus u can get.. its neck and neck with OC 7900gtx depending on the game u play.. u wont get better fps out of any other single card unless u go for a 7950gx2 . Something is causing your games to run slow..

@akshayt-do us all a favour and reformat ur system completely and reinstall windows with all the latest catalysts and nforce drivers.
If that doesn't help add another gig of ram to ur system.Cause fear and other games stuter because the game is reading the page file from the hard disk as the memroy has been used up.
Stop blaming one of the best......if not the best darn card out there cause u didn't do a couple of things right. The x1900 xtx is a great card and u my friend have no right to call it crap.
Sorry if i seem rude.
And at 800x600 cpu limitation also steps in.Try running it at 1280x1024 with IQ turned all the way down. That is no AA OR AF,and in-game settings all the way down.
The only other thing i can think of is u got a bad card. But i don't think thats the case, cause all u have i stutering.

For good measure, I am going to say it again. The video card is not the problem.

Don't worry about it, the XTX runs hot, your temps are normal. Fix the other issues first, and then worry about the fan if you want to hear it whining all the time.

Certifiable. PICNIC=Problem in chair not in computer. At the very least, your conclusion that the X1900XTX is crap, is absurd.

That's not very fair, it doesn't come with a comprehensive n00blet protection system, so it must be CRAP!

lol, if only I had the money to drop in buying a x1900xtx, instead of the knowledge required to make it work

Hahahaha, what an ass!

LOL, yeah what he doesn't realize is that his problem and our problem are two different things. We've been doing all we can in an attempt to make him calm down, shut up, and listen, but the problem persists.

akshayt, you are hopeless.

READ YOUR REPLIES

install chipset drivers

if that doesn't work

uninstall everything. no, not re-install. UNINSTALL.

Look genius, if you want help from people your first should NOT be to insult them. As anyone with brain cell one about computers should know, here is your proper software installation procedure after a fresh install of Windows:

*Install latest chipset drivers (in your case, DL from NVIDIA)
*Install latest video card drivers (in your case, DL from ATI or you can use modded drivers like the Omega's)
*Install drivers for the rest of your devices & peripherals

That alone should be enough to get any game running as it should be. Remember, after you install your drivers you need to REBOOT. I'll bet dollars to peso's that you didn't follow that procedure.

You know, this reminds me of the guys who get Linux help by starting a flamefest with 'Linux is a pile of crap because it can't <problem they are too lazy to research> like Windows!'

That being said, if you get chop at 800x600, it's so not your video card. Even low end cards can deal with that resolution. It could be any number of problems, hardware and software. But most likely, as everyone said, is a faulty or out of date chipset driver installation. Which is not the same thing as the video card driver.

The X1900XTX is the fastest, highest quality single GPU consumer card on the planet. There is nothing better unless you go multi-gpu, which has its own share of pitfalls.

Just out of curiosity, what is your score on 3dmark05?

I guess you don't. See this thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1840051&enterthread=y

I have changed my video card and other things since then and nothing has changed with the stuttering. I think it's the ingame car physics (the camera movements in the menus don't exhibit this), especially as Doom 3 has a similar problem and in that it's due to the way the physics works.
