1920x1080 on TV not aligning

I have a 2 different computers hooked up to my TV via VGA/D-SUB cable. In both isntanced the problem is that the entire screen is shitfted down about 1" or so, where I can just baaaaaaaarely see the top of the Windows taskbar.

When I run at lower resolutions everything seems to line up just fine.
I'm thinking maybe the problem lies in the VGA connection itself? Or could it be the actual TV? I was planning on getting a HDMI capable card for the setup (The real reasons being that I want a longer run (25ft) and audio to go over the same cable) but I don't want to invest in the hardware and cabling to do so, if I'm going to be stuck with this stupid 1" problem.

The TV is a nicer, ~2yr old Samsung 46" LCD (I forget model)

Mine doesn't support very high resolutions over VGA, only HDMI.

Yeah, mine only supports 4:3 resolutions over VGA for some reason, up to 1280 x 960 I think.

I mean it actually SHOWS the video, just the top 1" is cut off and is below.

It's either scaling it down or is oversampling.

It's not stretched or anything though.
Wish this TV had a DVI input. I dont want to go buy a HDMI card and still have this issue.

Wait, are you using a video card with DVI output? If that's the case, just get a DVI-HDMI cable to connect it to the TV, or an DVI-HDMI adapter and a normal HDMI cable.

No no. Let me give full disclosure.
This is technically my "server" that I just moved upstairs from the basement since I sold the previous PC that was serving up XBMC to my TV.
The plan is to move the server back downstairs, get a HDMI card (cheeeeeeeeeepo), and a USB extender and run the HDMI and USB up to the TV in the living room.

That way I can have sound/video over HDMI and the USB will be for the IR pickup. This is just a temp hookup while I test some stuff etc, and until I get a new GPU/USB extender etc.

But the 1" overhang was worrying me. It was on the old PC too, but I just chalked it up to a crappy video card. Now with the new PC there, and the SAME thing happening it got me worried.

I would normally say the TV because it may be set up to overscan an analog signal (all analog TV was overscanned to some extent, there was typically a lot of extraneous info at the edges of the frame), but if you're using a VGA input on the TV that's meant to take a signal from a PC, I would think they would've disabled overscan on that but who knows.

In the interim, your video card may have a way to position and/or scale the image in its driver control panel.

ITs just an old crappy PCI NV 6200.
Worst case is I drop $30 on PCIE card with HDMI and it still does it. It's livable, just annoying. I mean I cant believe my TV would have an issue displaying all 1080p content. That just doesn't make sense.

with a 6200 you should be able to go into the nvidia control panel and adjust the settings. I used to be able to do that with my 6600 connected to my tv.

ahhhh adjusted via teh NV control panel. Aligns perfectly now.

Now I got a stupid IR receiver issue.
Dumb receiver is for Vista/WIn7 only
WHS/XP not recognizing it.
