Is it worth going just to 1920x1080 monitor right now from 1680x1050 or should I just directly go to 2560x1440?

$500 to $700 is your budget for a monitor?

Personally I prefer IPS vs 120 hz TN, but then again I don't play twitch fps.

You can get an ebay korean for $340 to $400

Amazon has the monoprice 2560x1440 on sale for $400 This is the same monitor than anandtech reviewed except it has a scalar and thus more inputs.

Currently Dell Outlet has a coupon code 5GM6XSPQV0DDVZ Expires 9/29 at 11:59 p.m. CT
This coupon code takes 30% off any monitor this makes the refurbished U2713HM $418 after coupon code (you will have to pay tax as well, note a refurbished monitor has a 90 day warranty.)

My opinion is, if you are getting a 1920x1080 monitor then definitely get a 120hz panel. Otherwise get a 2560x1440.

What is the difference between panels and how can I make sure the monitor is 120hz ?

Is my current one I have now ? NEC Multisync 20WMGX2 ?

There are two main monitor technologies being used today.

IPS which stands for in plane switching
TN which stands for twisted nematic.

IPS get much better color and viewing angles. At the expense of higher costs and slower response times.

TN are cheaper to manufacture (and thus you see them in budget monitors) or the nice TNs can redraw the screen at 120 times a second (120 hz), unless the monitor states it is a 120 hz monitor then it redraws the screen at 60 times a second (most TN and all IPS monitors are 60 hz)

Your monitor is expensive for it was an older IPS when IPS used to be very expensive (2000 to 2011) There are many variants of IPS (E-IPS, S-IPS, AS-IPS, H-IPS-P-IPS, AH-IPS...) but recently IPS panels are now a lot cheaper in the 23" size due to the invention of E-IPS. E-IPS is a variant of IPS that allows more light to come through through at a very small sacrifice of color reproduction (so not professional level IPS, but still much much better than any TN) thus you can make an e-ips monitor very cheaply with budget led lighting. E-IPS was created in 2009 but it took about 2 years for the technology to hit retail most 23" monitors today are the E-IPS variety; but prior to E-IPS you always paid a $100 to $300 more for an IPS panel compared to a TN panel. This is why your monitor still goes for a lot, it really isn't worth that price anymore but it used to be worth that price and thus people will still pay a premium (similar to how people will buy a new q6600 oem processor for $94)

If you spend more money for a 2560x1440 you are not getting E-IPS usually but instead one of the nicer IPS variants.

Get a 2560x1440 panel, and change the native res to 1920x1080p so you can do 120 Hz within the pixel clock. ToastyX's tool let me change my native res to 1600x900, and do 75 Hz... if I had known that monitors could do that I would've gotten a 2560x1440 Qnix clear IPS panel without the add-in board.

My opinion is, if you are getting a 1920x1080 monitor then definitely get a 120hz panel. Otherwise get a 2560x1440.
No point in that, see above.

Depends what video card you have. 680 or 780 will run high res 2500res But any card other card like a 660 Ti or 670 or 760 Ti cant do 2560res very slow... If you do SLI you can run at that insane resolution...

So I recommend 1080p . 170 or 200 dollars ish.......

I HAD a Hanns-G 28" 1920x1200 TN monitor, but it pales in comparison to my new QNIX QX2710 27" (only paid $329.90 & has Samsung PLS panel). The 2560x1440 is outstanding.

What games are you going to be playing? If you play online fps games or other fast online games, definitely get an Asus VG248QE (or BenQ XL2411T if in Europe)

Like everybody else I grew up on feminine smaller monitors. I say go 2560/1440 or go home. I will not buy a puny girly monitor again, 27/28" and 2560/1440 AND BEYOND!

I ordered pixle perfect and it was. Since these are a- panels I wonder if pixle perfext = bad light bleed. I would trade a few pixles for less bleed.
