1973 Harley Sportster

My fatherinlaw is giving me his 1973 Harley. The paint is still in really good condition but could use something to bring back the shine as for the chrome too. What would be a good product to use for this?

Heavy Metal Polish - depending on how bad the chrome is you will need Green = Medium or Blue = Fine.

Back in the day, I always used simichrome for chrome.

XLCH, has the shifter on the wrong side, I had one about 20 years ago, the shifter thing will keep people from asking to ride it and that's a good thing. Keep the rubber side down.

Nice score! I like Turtle Wax chrome polish. It's cheap and easy to apply.

Ill get pics up once I get it. They are in the process of moving so I kind of feel bad bugging for it but I want it. Its been sitting for about 4 years so I will need to kind of clean it up, drain and replace fluids, and I know it needs a new battery. As for the shifter, I do need to get that replaced because my wifes little brother used to think he could ride it and would kick the damn thing and it broke off! Other than that, its ready to roll.

You'll need to replace any fuel in the tank and lines and definitely clean the carbs. I would recommend replacing the fuel lines and cleaning the tank and it will probably need new tires too.

Might want to go through the braking systems too, replace fluid, bleed, check pads, replace brake lines if dry and cracked.

I am going to get all that done. I dont feel like doing it half way and since working on bikes is new to me, and I dont have the time to do all this myself, Ill be taking it to someone here in town who does some awesome work.
