Phew.... I thought I was the only one whose site has been down since at least 1 p.m. EST. No FTP or HTTP.

BTW, my control panel is still working, as is incoming/outgoing mail. I don't use SSH so I'm not sure if that's still functioning, but I would guess that it's not.

UPDATE: FTP and HTTP seems to back up and running as of 11:50 p.m. EST

I'm glad to see this post.
I've never been able to set up a protected directory either.
I'm sure we are just doing something wrong.
Can someone provide a little more info?

I setup the directory and created a new folder, say Secure is the folder name.

I create a new profile inside of Net Objects to point only certain pages to the secure folder and the transfer completes, but there is no login required for the page.

What else is there to do?

Thanks

Now you see why we want to post these in off topic. I need help and can never get any in this forum

Yep, still waiting for the answer. This forum does get plenty of traffic though, does off topic get more exposure?

Off Topic is like a race track compared to this forum

OK, I think I figured out how to do it.

Go to your Control Panel
Go to WebSpace/Access
Protected Directories
Click "new user"
Enter a username
create a password
Under "Directory" select either "existing" or "create new directory"
(I selected an existing from the drop down menu, I had several there due to previous attempts to set this up)
Hit save

That should do it.

I didn't get to test mine out yet cause it takes about 30 mins so they say for your changes to become active.

Let me know how you make out.

UPDATE: Well something is still not right. I get the popup box to enter my username and password, but I get a 403 error message.

Been there done that. When I put stuff in that directory that was created it does not ask for username password.

That is the problem.
Thanks

OK, well I'm getting the popup window, entering my username and password I assigned to the protected
directories and it's not letting me in.

I use WinSCP to load stuff into my directories. When using that, you must enter the username and
password assigned by 1 and 1.
My problem is that I cannot view my directory via my web browser after entering the usename/password i
assigned to that directory. I get the 403 error after entering my userame/password in the popup box.

If you want to check it out, here is the link to my site.

And here is the link to a protected directory i am trying
to set up.

UPDATE- I put an index.html into my protected directory and it seemed to work properly then.
Problem with that is that I didn't want to work with an index.html there, I wanted to work with the
directory format. I do have an .htaccess file loaded there which should have taken care of that.

UPDATE#2 - well I screwed around with it (replaced the .htaccess file and temporarily removed the
index.html) and now the directory no longer appears protected, perhaps like the situation you have.
This 1and1 seems to be very termpermental.

I'm beginning to believe that 1and1 just doesn't work properly.
