Ditto. My wife wanted to be able to hold her entire collection on an iPod, but she was thrilled with the 1gb even so (didn't know I was getting one for her). The photo feature is pretty neat; it picked up our Picasa albums and imported all 700+ pictures into the Nano and still had plenty of room for music. It has a few nice features, like games, a stopwatch, calender, etc. Pretty neat little device. I still think I'm going to get a mobiBlu Cube though, although the Archos Gmini 220 (20gb mp3 player with a CF reader for storing photos built-in) seems pretty nice at less than $300.

One of these days when I become not-poor I am planning to get a 1GB Nano for my wife. My work got me a 2GB one for Christmas and I love it. I have to admit that neither of us was into the "iPod Craze" before I got my Nano, but it's made me a convert. The thing just screams "quality" and the size and weight and accessory market are phenomenal. My wife still insists she's fine with her 64MB Rio (which sounds AWFUL), but she'll be a convert, too, when I get her one!

The sad thing about the 1GB Nano being an Internet introduction and not a press conference is that it's given retailers an excuse to make extreme profit on the Shuffles. Just this week I saw in BOTH the Circuit City and Best Buy ads the 512MB Shuffle advertised as ON SALE for $99. What a rip-off. If I worked at either store, I'd be honest and tell anyone picking one up to get it right from Apple and save themselves 30 bucks.

Thanx Kaido. I picked one up for my gf last week and it arrived just in time. She loved it. Especially the engraving on the back. Made it seem more special and one of a kind to her. Shes not a huge music lover so 1gb was enough. Now on to the accessory shopping.

For students, $130 is tough to beat for a 1gb player with screen. Even if it doenst support WMA I think I might have to get in on this.

And the guy who linked this?
Yeah, thats sweet.. I'm buying that for sure.

Anyone know if this nano works with the Klipsch Ifi?

Looks like it. You have to order the (free) adapter from them. Send them your address and iFi serial number located on the back of the sub and you should be all set.

No problem, my wife loved hers too If you're getting accessories, make sure that the first one you buy is the invisibleSHIELD. It's just a clear wrap for the iPod that prevents it from getting scratched. Costs $20 and includes some goop for putting it on. They have both full coverings and coverings for everything but the click-wheel; I got the one with the click-wheel cutout because it's supposed to have better sensitivity without the covering. I wish I had put it on right away; the chrome backing already has a scratch on it and I didn't do anything but take it out of the box and play with it lol. Circuit City has some good accessories (like pink armbands and cases, if she's into that). You can get a Nano dock, a full-sized dock, a dock with a remote control, cases, armbands, earbuds, headphones, bass boosters, headphone amps, all kinds of things. The invisibleSHIELD is great for protecting against scratches, but it won't do anything if you drop it, so a case would be a good idea. Glad to be of help

Yeah, but then, retailers will almost always have a higher markup than online sellers. I rarely buy anything from BB or CC or any of the local stores unless it's an emergency or on sale. The funny thing is, I got her an iPod Shuffle (512mb) for her birthday last year and lost it a few months ago (my fault, lol). Yesterday she discovered it in the closet and was pretty excited and I was like "oh no" in my head. It worked out well that she found it though, since we've both been making an effort to go to the gym, so now she has the Nano and I have the Shuffle. No complaints here, I love the Shuffle...to me it's perfect; it's just a big CD that weighs less. Holds about 120 songs; I just auto-load it with the most played songs from the library and off to the treadmill I go

IMO, you need two accessories ASAP:

1. invisibleSHIELD with click-wheel cutout
2. Better earbuds

The Nano gets fingerprints and smudges really easily and gets scratched somewhat easily, so if you have the patience, open the Nano box, verify that it works, and then put on the invisibleSHIELD before you do anything else. It says to let it dry for 24 hours; that's why I said 'if you have the patience' Next, get some better earbuds or headphones. The ones that come in the box are pretty bad. I use Sennheiser HD-570s, which are really awesome, but they're also really big (although lightweight) and a tad expensive (like $80 on eBay). Radio Shack has some really, really good blue ones that are almost as good as my Senns but are only $14.99. They sound good and they don't make you look like a dork like the HD-570s do Also, grab a dock; it looks really good next to the computer and it's so much nicer just to be able to plop the iPod into a dock rather than fumble with the USB wire (I have a ton of wires on my desk tho, so maybe that's just me).

I believe these are the kind I got from Radio Shack. Blue and purple, with a nifty wind-up carrying case. Comfy & great sound for $15, what more can you ask for?

They really scratch THAT easy? Do you have white or black?

I really like my Koss KSC35 earphones, I think they sound really good. I also have Senn MX400 earbuds, but they are pretty bad and earbuds never stay in for me. I used to have Senn HD497 but I didnt like them very much.. too big and honestly, the sound quality is on par.. or worse than the KSC35s.

Check out the Koss KSC35 or KSC75 (newer version of the same thing). They also made a behind-the-head version with the same drivers (KSC55).
They have a really cheap price, but I think you might like them.

I'm going to talk to my girlfriend and see if she wants this Nano instead of her 1GB Muvo Micro N200. If she likes it, I'll be ordering two. One of them engraved for my kitten.

Probably an Ifi too, since I've heard good things about it.. do you know if the Ifi charges the Nano too?

I have the black one. I haven't noticed any scratches on the front yet, but there are some on the back (the chrome side). If you're going to be keeping it in a case I'm sure that will be fine too. The iFi charges regular iPods, so I'd imagine with the adapter it'll charge the Nano too. Send Klipsch an email at support@klipsch.com or call them at 1-800-KLIPSCH (M-F, 8am-5pm EST) to make sure before you buy one though. BTW, the Nano came pre-charged for me

I feel like I'm quizzing you here.. but didnt Apple start shipping Nanos with slip covers after the scratching issues popped up?

And thanks for all your involvement in thread. Its appreciated.
I need to get my gf over here and see what she wants to do so I can start spending money! Weeee! Its not really that fun, but they havent released the Dell 2407 yet.. so what am I supposed to do? :disgust: I guess Apple/Klipsch can have my money instead.

No problem! Yes, it comes with a slipcase. It doesn't have a handle, band, or grip of any kind though; that's all it is, just a slipcase. If you're going to keep it in a pocket or purse all the time, I'd say get the invisibleSHIELD. If you're going to have it out and about, get a flipcase for it, for easy access and drop/scratch protection. If you're going to use it for exercising, get an armband. It just stinks when you pay $150+ for a little device and it gets scratched or broken from a drop.

I had no interest in getting an iPod, primarily because their firmware interface sucks and you have to use iTunes to transfer music.

So I have used my bulky but trusty Archos Recorder for years now, never worrying about $99 replacement batteries, etc. And what made it useful was Rockbox. Great, customizable interface, and you could even uninstall it and revert to the original firmware if you wanted.

It seems that they now have this working to some degree on iPods. The Rockbox project got VIDEO working on the old Archos' monochrome screen, that wasn't designed for it. Think what they can do with the iPods, with color screens.

Once they get it usable, this will be a VERY hot deal.

Yeah but who would want to watch videos on a Nano screen? The screen is like the size of my thumbnail! Pictures are kind of cool, but my cell phone's screen is like four times as big compared to th Nano's screen. That is some pretty neat software though...

I guess my point wasn't so much about videos on MP3 devices, but that these guys are pretty damn smart and ingenious. And may do things for the iPods that nobody's thought of.

You do not have to use iTunes to transfer music. Foobar2k
