If you are bulding a new rig, then go ahead and get 2 GB. If your rig is older, then just make sure you have 1 GB.
On a new rig, make sure the 2GB is in 1 GB sticks, that way the A64 can make use of 1T timings.
Really, 2GB comes in handy for newer higher resolution games, and app intensive workstations. For example, I regularly decode dvds to my hdd, while downloading through bit torrent and browsing the web. This is where a dual core, 2 GB ram workstation comes in handy.
Well these are the two systems I am concidering:
System #1
CRT - Sony 17?
PSU- FSP Fortron Source 450w
Motherboard- Asus A8N5X
CPU- AMD 3500+ E6
RAM- Corsair Value Select 1GB (2x512mb)
HD- Maxtor Diamondmax10 200GB SATA
Vid Card- EVGA Geforce 7800 GT
DVD- NEC 3550A
Mouse- Logitech MX518
OS- Windows XP
migrating over is just my keyboard
or this :
System #2
PSU - Antec SmartPower 500w
Motherboard - Asus A8N5X
CPU - AMD 3800+ X2
Ram - Corsair XMS 2GB (2x1GB)
HD - Western Digital 80GB SATA
Vid Card - EVGA Geforce 7800 GT
OS - Windows XP
migrating my CRT, Sony DVD burner, Keyboard & Mouse
The most multitasking that I do is, surfing the web while in a chat room
while listening to music, and talking VOIP (skype). Do I need dual core for that?
Also for games, will i see much loss in games with dual core (compareed to 3500+ E6)?
Boy I've shattered my own topic!
As always, any replies are welcomed
