Wow, why so cheap? Cheapest 512mb of CF is $124 on pricewatch. For basically the same price you get 2x's as much. Wish I had the $

Looks like a very nice deal. A little over a year ago, a 1GB CF card like this would have probably cost you around $1000.

Depends on what you use it for. If you're using it for a PDA, it's more than fast enough. If you're using it for a camera, it's on the slower side. But unless you're some uber photographer, it shouldn't make THAT big of a difference to you. But compared to what else is available, you can't beat this price.

Bottom line, if you don't like it MOVE ON!

- They use less battery power than Microdrives
- No moving parts, nothing to break

I can't think of any reason except perhaps the speed issue. Aside from that, I can only give you reasons why you should go with this one. The first and foremost reason, IMO, is because it isn't manufactured by IBM. After the failure of my last IBM hard drive and ensuing warranty debacle, I will never purchase another product from them.

price AFTER rebate is outstanding. If you have a digital camera OTHER than a DSLR this would be fine. However if you spent 2000 or more for a DSLR to take advantage of burst speeds of 3FPS this card will slow you down after your buffer is full.

It is noticably slower. You might be better off getting 2 512s that can be purchased for ~230 after rebates.

Holly smolly. That is getting super hot.

But its a SUPER deal if you ask me.

THANKS a plenty.

And also its a you snooze you lose kind of deal, so whoever that might needs it....hurry.

Hmm,

I ordered. But too late, the shipping date was like march 19. Which is way after the MIR date allowed. So I guess I will wait and see.

Can you able to use these in MP3 player which has CF slot? I mean is there any restrictions on MP3 players about maximum memory?

I just called amazon.com CSR and they assured me that if I don't get the item by March 8th, just call them and they will refund the MIR difference.

Don't rebates usually go by purchase date rather than ship date?

Actually, Sandisk cards didn't fair too bad in this comparative review of Compact Flash cards:
Also, note that the larger the card, the better the performance.

That specific link shows the Sandisk normal brand (as opposed to the newer ULTRA) as having the absolutely SLOWEST write times of all cards tested. (they didnt display/test a 1gb card but the 512 came in dead-last by a wide margin)

A newer test was done at rogalbraith.com (you will have to search for the specific link) and it shows Sandisk and the 1gb as being relatively slow compared to almost all other CF cards. Again this isnt a bad deal and I am starting to consider purchasing one just because of the price. Just that it will take an extra 8 seconds to free up the buffer after 4 or so shots at maximum resolution.

BTW DSLR = Digital Single Lens Reflex (while the acronym 'used' to refer to any camera that had a viewfinder that went directly through the lens, for digital cameras it typically refers to bodies that have exchangable/removable lenses as opposed to fixed lens on many digital cameras such as the Sony 707, Canon G3, Minolta 7i and Nikon Coolpix line-up)

Update: I ordered one after all. I figure I can unload it on ebay and at least break even if I am dissatisfied. Interesting thing is that my ship date is in the year 2004!!!. I sure hope that is a typo
Shipping estimate: February 15, 2004
Delivery estimate: February 20, 2004 - February 24, 2004

I called and talked to a CSR and he said he wrote on my order that I had called and that he has assured me to place the order and amazon.com would gaurantee I would get the rebate. He emphasized the fact that this is an amazon.com rebate.

I want to see a review that tests video playback on a PDA with all the various memory cards out there. Having a gig of memory on your PDA would be too sweet.
