1Ghz AXIA only running at 850Mhz, why?

Okay lets start by stating that I just bought a 1Ghz AXIA (266 FSB) chip, but I am running it on a K7T Pro 2-A motherboard with the KT133 chipset. Of course it originally booted up at 3/4 of the 1Ghz speed (750Mhz). So I proceeded to clock it up but was only able to get it up to 850Mhz and have it boot. I realize that having the slower FSB MB is going to limit the chips performance but I would have assumed I could have OCed it at least enough to get it back up to 1Ghz but I can't even get that. Am I missing something, or do I just have to buy a newer motherobard that supports 266 FSB?

It sounds like your running it a 100fsb
BTW the 100fsb boards do NOT overclock well maybe 110fsb not much more.

It's runing at 7.5*100 instead of 7.5*133. Your board will never clock at 133MHz fsb though.

So what your telling me is I need to step up and get a 266FSB board to really utilize my new AXIA chip? Would this also possibly cause lockups when playing some 3D Games?

Lockups, no you are underclocking the chip witch means it runs slower and thus more stable. You need the via 4in1 drivers though(everyone seems to not get them). Also you are probably overclocking via fsb with means you board may be limited. Is your chip unlockced?

Okay, I did get the Via 4 in 1 drivers and installed them. I got version 4.32 Final. My chip is unlocked, I actually did it twice to make sure. I think my board is limiting me though. Previous to the AXIA chip I had a 800mhz thunderbird running stable at 1Ghz using the same board. I am about to throw in the towel with this mother board... Son of a...!!!

I would think you could run this at 10x100MHz. Your board does support multiplier adjustments right? Seems odd if it will not run the same settings you had on your 800MHz@1gig.

I'm confused.. is your multiplier set to 10 and your FSB set to 100?

I attempted to run it at 10 x 100 but it won't boot. I can only run it at 8.5 x 100 and have it boot.

Yes my board does support multiplier adjustments.

Stupid question, does the ram speed make a difference in what speed your processor runs at?

what kinda ram do you have?, if it's pc133 it should be able to handle 133fsb..

Actually I don't think it is PC133 ram, I think its 100. Does that mean my processor can only run at 100FSB?

borrow some pc133 ram from someone and try changing fsb to 133. most of pc100 won't run at 133fst.

nevermind, the MSI k7t pro 2-a uses VIA KT113 chipsets instead of KT113A, so you mobo can't do 133.
