I have you beat. My 1st 1GB hard drive was a SCSI one from Micropolis. It cost $990. Plus tax.

I can beat that. I got a Micropolis 1528 differential SCSI drive for $1150. It was technically 1.5GB, but after formatting it was 1280MB. It still works. It's about 6" right of my right knee cap in a DOS system that I don't use but have connected to my KVM.

I doubt anyone will find these. These drives have been clearenced for literally a year. What happened is a whole bunch of clearance stuff was found in one of the distribution center and shipped out to various stores, with most of the same product going to one store.

Anyways, on the other hand, according to the person I talked to, this merchandise was NOT keyed into the computer system, so if you call and they tell you they don't have it, it's quite possible they really DO, hiding in their lockup or on the shelf with no record of it in their system.

Good luck you guys!

Meaning, get off your lazy *** and goto the store =)

Hmm.... Hopefully I'll beat AphexII to the local OfficeMax. bwahaha

update: None on the shelves, none on the bargain table in Gainesville. When I asked 'em (in my wrinkled clothing, sandals, and w/ disfigured afro ) if they had any 30GB'ers in the back, the staff said that they didn't have any and gave me crazy stares until I left.

Me too! Oh well, I'll just run over to the OM near Town and Country and see what they have. I'll report my findings when I get back.

Bad news. Town and Country OM doesn't have them either. The employee I talked to said that they got about 12 in and the employees bought them all! Blah. Can't blame them though this is a hell of a deal!

Sounds like no one else can even find the drive for that price... so what's so excellent about the post?
One other person did. And it at least gives people a heads up to check for it. Of course your milage may vary. Overall, it is a good first post.

pfft... youngster.....

My first hard drive, a 20MB (yes, that's megabyte) HyperDrive for an original Mac (with a whopping 128KB of mem!) cost me $1,750. Doing the math, that's $87.50 per MB, or $87,500 per GB.

Compared to the 120GB drive that I just bought for $62 after MIR & PM, thanks to AT!!!!!, I'm thinking I might have overpaid a tad...

Yep NotesGuy, we're in the same league. My first HD was a 20 megger as well. Used it on my Amiga 500 in the sidecar expansion enclosure and thought I had the world by the ass. Couldn't imagine what I was going to do with that much storage space but figured that at least it wouldn't become obsolete anytime soon.
